1971 Westfalia all original camper, amazing story Price: 20000
Golden opportunity to own a fantastic Volkswagen Westfalia factory fitted camper.
1971 is recognised as the best year for the Bay Window Bus and this particular vehicle is exceptional and has an amazing history. After buying from the first owner in 2009, the current owner drove it from Oregon to her home in Massachusetts . After 9000 miles one way with no issues whatsoever, they made it all the way back to the west coast in 2012, clocking up another 8500 miles.
This VW, known on facebook and its blog (http://yeswecanjourney.wordpress.com) as "The YesWeCan CamperVan", has enjoyed many adventures on its cross country trips.
This campmobile is now seeking owner number 3 for a new life of camping and touring. It is ready to travel many more miles on its rebuilt engine and transmission. Mechanically you would be hard pressed to find a better 71 bus; all it needs is some tlc for its paintwork.
The BEST ASPECTS of this Westy are:
1600 DP REBUILT ENGINE with 17.5K miles: Engine rebuilt by JIMs VW (Monterey Park, Los Angeles area) in February 2012 at 177,000 miles and odometer now reads 194,500 (17,500 miles on this engine, it is good for another 60,000 miles).
TRANSMISSION rebuilt in 2017, only 1000 miles ago.
CLUTCH replaced in 2011 at 170,000 miles.
BRAKE BOOSTER replaced in 2014.
NEW WINDSHIELD and SEAL in 2017.
NEW BATTERY June 2018.
TIRES are 6 ply truck tires and have loads of remaining tread.
COMPLETE INTERIOR, icebox fridge, sink, upper berth hammock, children's cot over front seats, screens on all windows including rear hatch. Everything works.
The DASHBOARD is in excellent condition, all original.
Odometer is true mileage at 194,520.
TWO KEYS: one key locks all doors, one for ignition.
NO rust on body, inside or underneath (see photos at http://classicwagens.org/dexter)
This is a gem of a bus. It's all original.
It has been in California since 2012 and has been garaged all of its life. All paperwork comes with the bus showing its service history.
WHAT'S TO DO:
The only work to be done to make this bus top notch, is the paintwork. It needs your tlc. Can either redo total body area underneath windows all round
. or redo those panels that need new paint (front and two middle side panels).
Front paint is flaking around headlights can be patched in.
When removing the adhesive signs on middle side panel some of the paint came off with the sign as shown in photo. Both sides can be re-sprayed to match rest of bus or you could touch in the patches by adding your own unique vw emblems/murals. If I were buying this bus, I would paint in a few hearts and leave the paint until I decided to do a complete re-spray.
With new paint this would be a $25,000 bus.
The asking price of $20,000 is for its present condition and is very fair.
A new case was used for the engine rebuild. The original case is in fine condition and can be included in the sale price if you would like that.
ALSO INCLUDED: New TMI original weave front seat covers are also included (value $300).
