Show Quality Restored 1973 ‘Westfalia’ Camper

A nut & bolt, sandblasted shell restoration has been performed on this 1973 westy, originally an Arizona bus.
The camper was stripped to a bare shell in preparation for sandblasting. Being an Arizona vehicle, the shell was in very good condition. Classic Car Revivals completed rust repair, with only inner and outer sills needing complete replacement and a few localised repairs to factory standard on eg doors/seat belt anchor points/inner arches. Classic Car Revivals the painted the interior & exterior to show quality in VW Pearl White, with the underside chassis painted in ‘Raptor’ anti chip protective coating. With such an original body, retaining all major factory panels and doors and painted to show quality, the result is extremely straight and correct with a mirror finish. Panel gaps are perfect, door gaps perfect, with factory welds and details everywhere. Brand new stock steel wheels and hubcaps were sourced direct from VW in Germany, with the wheels painted in Porsche Grauschwarz and hubcaps VW pearl white matching the exterior. Brazilian early style bumpers fitted, painted Porsche Grauschwarz. When purchased this westy had lovely period pinstripes applied by the original owner, these have been hand painted back on.

The interior is by Custom Classic & Retro.Later T25 westy seats with armrests were sourced and stripped. Full width Rusty Lee Rock n Roll bed. Full length headliner. Westfalia Continental Roof Bed conversion. Prior to interior fit, the inner panels, roof and floor were fully soundproofed. Custom rear seat cabinets and units, overhead locker (with stowage for table) and modern LED lighting. The interior has been fully upholstered, including the dash top. Pop top roof headliner, and a pop top tent trimmed and fitted to perfection. Buttys Bits new stainless front and rear hinges/springs.
Mechanically, everything is either brand new, rebuilt and enhanced or powder coated. Top quality hardware used throughout.
The original 1700 Type 4 was stripped and rebuilt by LVH Engines & Restos. Porsche 914 heads were stripped and rebuilt with stainless steel valves and heavy duty springs. Keith Black 96mm forged pistons and bored German stock barrels increase capacity to 1911cc. A Eurorace C grind camshaft with brand new Spanish Weber IDFs on CSP manifolds ensure this camper is not short on power. Full CSP Python exhaust with CSP J tubes, CSP bell crank linkage (with a Buttys Bits throttle linkage up front), ITG competition air filters, Facet fuel pump, Malpassi ‘Filter King’ regulator. Tinware was blasted and aux heater holes welded up for a clean look in the engine bay.
The original CK code gearbox was stripped and rebuilt with longer gearing (4.57 R&P) for lower revs at higher speeds. New CV joints and axles, fully refreshed shifter bushes and all new gearbox mounts.
Camper is mildly lowered on Creative Engineering stock width front beam and Creative Engineering adjustable rear spring plates. KYB Gas-a-Just shocks front and rear.
All braking components are new. Servo, master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders hoses discs, drums and fittings are new. Backing plates have been powder coated.
Full new loom by VW looms. Leisure battery with Victron-Cyrix voltage sensing split charge. All new light units.
Finishing off the interior is a wooden rimmed steering wheel by MCJ products, custom ‘sun & moon’ style horn button, and matching door pulls, window winders and heater levers. The dash has been painted in Porsche Grauschwarz to match the bumpers/wheels. The stereo is a period correct Blaupunkt, restored and enhanced with Bluetooth streaming and VW knobs.
This is a show quality restoration, with the best of everything. Built to a standard and not a budget, she’s a top quality cruiser built for years of comfort, enjoyment and reliability.
