GUNTHER 1975 RHD Super Beetle   Price: $4050 ONO
"GÜNTHER": 1975 Right Hand Drive (RHD) Super Beetle (1600L/1303) that would be ideal for a collector or hobbyist looking for a car to restore
FOR SALE: AU$5,7000 (approx US$4050) or nearest offer (Feel free to email or phone to discuss the car or the price. If phoning please note the timezone difference -- I am in GMT+10)
Note the car is listed as POOR as it needs an engine rebuild and has some rust. It is however otherwise a VERY SOUND CAR that would be great to restore.
Odometer: 44476 MILES, but I'm not sure how correct this is.
Colour: wattle yellow (Australia-only option)
• Being sold without roadworthy, but I can drive it to the buyer's place if it's within 100 km. I have reduced the price to reflect the lack of roadworthy certificate. For buyers in South Australia, I may be able arrange to have it re-registered in South Australia with minimal fuss, negating the need for a roadworthy.
• Original 1.6 L air-cooled engine
• Reluctant sale as Günther is getting to the stage where he needs a full restoration, which I cannot afford. However, once this is done, it would be a great car for roadtrips and everyday driving, and should last another twenty or thirty plus years with good maintenance. It is also possible to convert to an electric vehicle by replacing the petrol engine with an electric engine and batteries.
• Runs well, body basically solid, little rust on underside or running boards. Brakes and steering have been well maintained and are in good condition.
• However, needs an engine rebuild (budget approx AU$5k for this) and rust removal & respray (rust esp. on rear columns, budget approx AU$15k for this) fairly soon. The problem with the engine is that there is too much free play/end play on the crankshaft, which is bad for the engine. It is not blowing smoke or overheating. It is running a bit louder than expected, due to this issue.
• Back seat should be re-upholstered asap, maybe if also restoring interior. Glovebox lid is also broken but supplied (needs new latch mechanism). I have tried to include the rust and bad spots in the photos as well as the good parts of the car, but it is basically sound. Running boards and floorpan are solid and mostly rust free.
• Will include a few spare parts I have lying around, plus the Bentley book, plus John Muir's How to Keep Your VW Alive in the sale.
