1986 Wolfsburg Edition Westfalia Weekender camper   Price: 13000
I am reluctantly selling my 86 Westy Weekender.
I have owned this van for aprox 10 years. I have meticulously maintained and have all maintenance records back to 1996. It has the original 2.1 liter water boxer with 190071 miles currently on it. The motor was rebuilt at 100,000 and I have since installed upgraded heads. It is a manual four speed and all linkages and bushings have been replaced. Since I've owned it I have replaced all coolant, fuel and a/c lines and hoses. All of the A/C components have been gone through, tested for leaks and been repaired or replaced including an evaporator rebuild, compressor replacement and all hoses replaced and tested to verify that they are holding pressure. The clutch was replaced approx 5000 miles ago so mechanically speaking everything works as it should.
The body has been repainted once by a previous owner. It was color matched and freshly done when I purchased it. Since then some surface rust spots have popped up and are pictured. Most of them are along the lower body seams but there is one below the rear window gasket on the drivers side as well.
The interior appears stock with the original beige corduroy interior that shows typical wear and the front seats have decent quality covers on them. The dash under the cover is solid with no cracks.
The tent in the pop top is also the original one window tent and could use a screen repair or replacement. I also have a "window shaker" A/C unit with a canvas kit that velcros into the front window of the tent to supply cool air while camping in the summer without having to run the on board a/c. The van has upgraded 15" Gowesty Mercedes style wheels which include a full size spare as well as the stock 14" spare that is stored under the front behind the front bumper.
I have added a Yakima rack for a surf board or kayak and a trailer hitch for a bike rack or platform to carry a cooler and fuel cans. I have tinted all of the windows and have screens for the rear hatch and side sliders plus a cover for the inside of the windshield for privacy while camping.
This van is fully functional as is but would make an excellent candidate for a full restoration.
I only wish for the next owner to enjoy it as much as my family and I have.
