1987 Vanagon Syncro   Price: 10000
1987 Vanagon Syncro with Subaru 2.2 conversion via Rocky Mountain Westy kit. 135,000 miles on the chassis. Engine fires right up, runs like a clock and pushes the van around very nicely. Its got the coveted rear locker. RMW Stainless steel exhaust. Body is in solid shape, no major rust issues, its a california van its whole life. It will need a few spots addressed and a paint job, but no deep seated rust/rot issues that plague many of these vanagons. Transmission has been rebuilt, the 3/4 slider went out as usual for vanagons. Everything works great now, its even got the decoupler in there. It has a very nice spare tire rack on the back, very well made and functional, will outlive the van most likely. I'm selling it because I need to scale back the number of projects I've got at the moment and I just don't have the time or finances for this anymore. It will need to be registered, it currently is awaiting a smog certificate in CA, but haven't been able to obtain that so far. I just don't have the time or patience to pursue it at the moment. The price will go up once I get it titled so now is a good time to buy if you're looking at registering it out of state, that'll be super easy. Unfortunately engine conversions in CA are a bit tricky, but possible nonetheless. Interior is clean. Nice grey upholstery in good shape. Its got a nice bamboo floor, easy to keep clean and looks way nicer than the stock carpet. No cushion over the engine compartment. And there are a few spots where the headliner is coming loose, the factory a/c was removed because it didnt function and the mounting points on the big housing tunnels had broken off due to brittle plastic, but I'd say the interior is a 7/10. This van is very close to being a very nice, very off road worthy syncro. With the subaru conversion, the rear locker and the decoupler its got all the goodies and its worth quite a lot and will be worth a ton once it gets a few simple things buttoned up and gets a couple grand's worth of bodywork and paint. Like I said earlier, I'm just out of time and patience to keep working on it, new position at work has me working 5 days a week instead of 3 and its just gonna sit for years at the rate I can afford to work on it at the moment. I am not even remotely interested in giving it away though, so keep the lowball offers to yourself. For 6k I'm willing to let it disintegrate in the driveway, sorry I know what the vans worth and offers like that are just insulting. I'm sure I've forgotten to mention a lot of things, pm me with any specific questions, do not email me, not stoked on having my email full of samba inquiries. Thanks!
