1970 Karmann Ghia Coupe - $8,500 OBO   Price: $8500.
Thinking about selling my 1970 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe ... for $8,500. obo

Just an FYI ... you can buy it now in the current condition for the advertised price of $8,500., or as I perform additional repairs and/or upgrades, the advertised price will go up accordingly. It is a semi-finished, very driveable car that only needs a few more tasks completed to make it a really nice daily driver. Sold in 'As-Is', but driveable condition.

The car has a clear title in my name. I recently placed it on non-op status to save $ on the increased California DMV fees and insurances costs. I sneak it out and drive it around the neighborhood every week though ;)

The engine is a stock 1600 single-port and runs really good. All the original engine bay components are present and accounted for. The previous owner claimed it had been rebuilt before I purchased the car ... and it seems to hold true. It has a good battery, starts right up and runs strong ... I drove it from San Diego to Los Angeles with no problems. Other than installing some better quality original style black heater hoses, the only other modifications I did with the motor was to replace the stock muffler with a Bursch style extractor exhaust and a flat-pack muffler that gives it a nice mellow sound.

I replaced the front shift rod bushing, the rear shift coupler and installed a new EMPI 'short-shift' kit, so it shifts really nice too. I also installed the driver side lower ball joint, a new speedometer cable and a new throttle cable at the same time.

The suspension is good, but I had planned to replace ALL of the ball joints, steering bushings, steering dampener, also the brake master cylinder, soft brake hoses and new front brake pads. All of these parts are all included in the sale as well. Stock size 165-15" tires are in good condition, mounted to chrome wheels with Porsche crest hub caps. (Hub caps will need to be polished with chrome cleaner to look better).

I also recently replaced both of the rear brake cylinders, associated hardware and brake shoes. The front calipers and pads were checked are still OK. The emergency brake lever needs to be reinstalled and adjusted.

The previous owner installed fiberglass rear floor pans and set a pair of Subaru electric seats. Unfortunately he didn't install any wiring or switches to control them, so I purchased, refurbished and reupholstered a pair of correct stock 1970 Ghia seats. I also reupholstered the rear seat with the correct vinyl material. It also has new interior door panels, rear side panels, new carpet, new sun visors and a new ABS glove box. The headliner is original and also in great shape. Also reinstalled the 3-point front seat belts.

It currently sports chrome front and rear nerf bars with new rubber grommets, but all the stock bumper parts are included (along with new rubber grommets, etc.), although the bumpers would need to be cleaned up or re-chromed if desired. The mounting brackets for the front bumper were bead blasted and painted.

A new pair of European amber tail light lenses were installed to brighten up the rear end. I installed a Jet Sounds period-correct AM/FM/Cassette deck, but there is no antenna and there are no speakers. (I didn't want to cut holes in the new door panels). Also, the previous owner had antenna hole filled before paint, so an antenna and speakers would need to be installed.

The previous owner had body stripped to bare metal before a new paint job. The body is in very good condition, the paint shines, and except for a minor dent my wife recently put in the nose, it's in great shape. The dent has only needs a little hammer & dolly work and a little touch-up paint to make it perfect ... (see pix).

A lot of other new rubber parts (including window and door seals) were either installed, or are included in this offering, as well as some other original parts the came with the car when I purchased it. (Receipts for the new parts I purchased add up to over $1,500.).

More pix are available if needed. Feel free to ask for particular views of specific areas.

Prefer local buyer, but will work with any transportation company the buyer chooses to employ.
