1965 Bahama Blue Beetle Nut & Bolt Restoration   Price: Auction BAT

Recently completed nut and bolt restoration 1965 Bahama Blue Beetle Sedan. This was never intended as a flip car or even something that would have an expectation to sell. The goal was to keep the car as close to stock and correct as possible. Most of the parts were NOS or German whenever possible - parts collected over two decades as a VW enthusiast. Given that this car was intended for a small, private collection - expenses were not spared.

History: Family ownership for the last 27 years. The car was originally sold in Washington state and lived in Bellingham before purchase in 1991. The odometer read 64k miles when purchased. 12k more miles were put on the car before it was parked (in some form of restoration) in a garage for the next 25 years.

When the decision was made to restore the car completely - the body and pan were separated. The chassis was stripped, new pan halves installed, and powder coated. New stock shocks, tie rods, K&L, steering damper, steering box, sway bar bushings, German drums, German wheel cylinders. Everything else was replaced or restored as necessary. Transaxle was completely rebuilt, and a new 12v starter was added. Coker bias ply Firestones on correct color painted original rims made it a roller.

Motor: correct 65 flat four now 1385cc. It is meticulously all stock on the outside but on the inside, is a big bore kit, NOS crank, Engle W-100 cam, CIP aluminum oil cooler, High volume oil pump, 1.1:1 ratio rockers, and a lightened flywheel 200mm 6 volt from a 66 transporter. All engine tin was stripped and powder coated. All seals, rubber, hoses, etc are intact and correct. As it should be, and as it left the factory in 1965. The extra power from the big bore make this car an absolut joy to drive. The period correct downward tail pipes add a little rumble to the exhaust note.

Exterior - Body and fenders were fully waterblast stripped before new single stage paint system. One area on the driver side quarter was replaced with new sheet metal when the stripping uncovered some body damage. Undercoat was applied to the underside of fenders only. New Wolfsburg bumpers, running boards and chrome trim finished off the exterior. All rubbers, seals, etc were replaced during the process. Paint and final fit/assembly was performed by Time Honored Classics in Las Vegas.

Interior- Interior- seats are restored with new horse hair pads; tweed inserts and vinyl sides to original pattern and colors (work performed by a VW enthusiast and interior specialist with numerous magazine cars). German square-weave oatmeal carpet and new rubber floor mats. New headliner, and door panels. New Wolfsberg Wiring cover and trunk mat covering a new wiring loom and gas tank.

The car was featured in the Flex Power Tools North America (Das Original) booth at SEMA 2018. It's been detailed and waxed by some of the greatest pros in the detail game.

This is a rare opportunity to own a very correct beetle. Work was performed with great care by the owner, and well respected friends. The quality of the car is evident in the materials and workmanship on display all over this great type 1. Clean NV title in hand. Available for viewing by appointment.
