1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia w/Boxeer 2.0 TDI   Price: $39,900
For sale is our 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia with new tdi motor. It spent the majority of its life in Texas before we purchased it in San Diego in 2014 and drove it back to Maine. Since then, it has been stored in our dry barn and has never seen a salted winter road. We have taken great care of it and have improved/maintained this van with the best products that we could find or were available.

Since owning, we have put in a new motor, transaxle, brakes, steering, upholstery/interior panels and other interior/exterior modifications like tires, suspension, swing aways, solar, diesel heater, awning ect.

We bought the van with 106,820 miles and it currently has 131,900 miles. New motor has 15k miles. New transmission has 12k miles. Brakes have 10k miles. Suspension and Tires have 15k miles.

We just took a 10k mile road trip from Maine to Southern Baja and back. The van performed flawlessly, getting 25-28MPG the entire time. The Boxeer motor is perfection on and off road. It is most comfortable/efficient at 65-70 mph with this gearing but it will do 80+ mph without a problem if needed. It has been thoroughly cleaned, gone over mechanically, fluids changed and is ready for the next great adventure. We wouldn’t hesitate to drive this across country tomorrow.

All modifications/improvements listed below have been done within the past 3 years. Engine/trans and related items were done June 2018.

Comes with a box of spare parts and a 1984 instrument cluster w/tach. The tach is hard to source for a 1984…we never got around to installing it. We used the tablet for a tach.

It was repainted in 2012 before we bought it. Color is pearl white. The paint job isn’t show quality and has some rock chips from dirt roads. That being said, it still looks very nice. We get compliments everywhere we go and have been told it’s the nicest Vanagon they have seen more than once. We are truly proud of the van we have built and are sad to see it go. The only reason for selling is to buy a bigger travel vehicle for us and our two large dogs.

The van comes as seen in the photos plus an SKB roof box and will have the latest tune from Boxeer. The only thing not included is the Engle fridge. You could easily use a cooler or a fridge of your choice in that location. More photos can be found here https://flic.kr/s/aHskQQLAnt

There is a lot there and surely we’ve missed some. We’re more than happy to share receipts/costs of anything or additional photos upon request. We have well over $60k into this van and are currently asking $42k. We feel this is a very fair price for what you are getting and it would be impossible to build a similar van for the asking price. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!!
