1641cc Rebuilt Type 1 Dual port Engine   Price: $2500 - no shipping
Just finished a rebuilt 1641cc type one engine. No shipping. No core or exchange engine charge. Local PU in the Houston, Texas area. In fact, I own a full time VW repair shop and will include installation in your Beetle ( 1967 and UP) for no added charge. It's going to be a super good deal. There is nothing wrong with the air cleaner-- I should have put it on straight. The choke on the carb was up against the bottom of it and I got in a hurry to take the photos. In early Bugs, cost some money to grind out the bell housing and change them over to 12 Volt system , but can do that. Engine can be used also in the Thing or in Karman Ghia. $2500 without exhaust and clutch. If you want new clutch parts and the exhaust shown in the photos, add $350 to the price or it's $2850, ready to be installed . I did the 20 minute test break in on my engine start up stand and there are no oil leaks. Looks good and runs great ! Photos are of engine for sale, actual engine, while still on my test stand. Note : photo under engine taken after 20 run time and zero oil leaks. I did not clean the floor, so this is for real. I cannot promise it will stay 100% sealed up, but it's a good start. German factory drain plate used with surfaced stock oil pump steel cover. There is a lot of detail work done to this engine, professional machine work and quality assembly. All VW timing gears, not the soft metal China made distributor gear, which will barely last 2000 miles. It's all German original parts on the crankshaft. VW factory rods, not rebuilt, as they were that good. I did balance them to close to race specs, so engine runs super smooth , even on my shaky engine test stand. You can see and hear this run, before you pay your money to me and feel how smooth it runs, when on the test stand. In my other ad, look at the low price I have on the fully flanged hide-a-way exhaust system, which would really look nice on this engine. Like all my VW parts, for sale, the sales price is low on that ceramic coated flanged system.

Here are some of the quality parts being used in this engine.
VW factory case, shows H on serial number, but it is exactly like the AH case used in 1973 with the dog house oil cooler holes, large oil passages, dual oil pressure relief valves and 8mm head studs with case savers. Really nice case which has been line bored, thrust cut, inspected for warping and cleaned.
VW German crankshaft turned down .020 mains, Std. on rod bearing journals.
VW German stock race balanced rods. All within 1 gram of each other.
All new bearings and complete Elring engine gasket set and German rear seal.
Mahle 87mm bore kit with Berg wrist pin clips. .060 inch barrel shims.
Autolinea heads, professionally cleaned and valve job done - look new.
New Spring loaded push rod tubes - Factory German push rods.
Reworked original rocker arm assemblies and VW made Valve covers.
Good VW German 200mm flywheel with German gland nut.
All new sheet metal. New upper and lower pulleys. New Gates fan belt.
German intake manifold and end castings, new intake boots.
New distributor, new coil, wires, NGK plugs.
New stock 34mm carburetor and new air cleaner.
New 50 amp. alternator, new stand and new alum. oil filler tube.
New dog house oil cooler and new support stand.
Good correct diameter cooling fan. New fuel pump and push rod.
New blueprinted Berg German brand oil pump. 30mm gears.
New dished stock camshaft and new Brazil lifters.
Exhaust and clutch not included in pricing but for $150 I can add a new F and S clutch kit and have a super nice flanged ceramic exhaust system for only $295, available. Or, for only $200 have a good condition ceramic small tube header with SS pfat boy muffler and new J-tubes. If you want, for some added money, I can do a two hour run time on the engine and readjust it, then no follow up is required. Warranty is six months/ 6000 miles. Free follow up on readjustment of engine, at 200 miles. By comparison , based on the ads I read, this should be a $3500 valued engine, installed free. I have been building VW engines for 40 years and use original German metric hardware or new parts and original Factory German head studs, nuts, washers. The oil pressure relief parts are original German, factory stuff. New oil pressure sender and new oil screen. 20WW50 oil.
