1986 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender   Price: 8995
For Sale 1986 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender Pop Top Camper

This is what a lot of people are looking for an inexpensive, driving project Vanagon camper van. It has some cosmetic needs, but it is very solid overall, and drives well. It has some needs of course, but at this price, a van you can jump in and use is hard to find.

It is a rare Weekender package with the rear facing jumpseat and flip up table, along with a larger bottom bed. Being a 1986, it has the larger 2.1L engine, and this one runs very well I suspect it has been rebuilt sometime in the not too distant past. The weekender has more cargo room and lighter weight which is much more useful for most people. This van has been owned by a Colorado family that has used it for camping and going over mountain passes, proving it's reliability and strength. It has some dents and scratches, and needs a muffler, but it drives well, shifts, brakes and steers just like it should. Later head unit with aux input and Infinity speakers. It comes with a new pop top tent as well (uninstalled). Some upgrades it has received are: headlights upgraded to H4 units with added relays, r134a air conditioning added that blows super hard and cold, pop-top shock for easier opening, recent water pump and fluid flush and a resealed gas tank kit with metal fittings and several new coolant hoses. It also has a tachometer added to the dash cluster.

It has some rust on the top of the front wheel openings, it needs the right hinge for the upper bunk, but the bed still functions fine. For someone looking for a cheap Westy to put some sweat equity into, this one is perfect. Drive it and use it like this, or fix and upgrade as you go. With the BF Goodrich All Terrains on it, it has driven up Mt. Elbert and camped at 10k feet, driven over Independence Pass 12k ft to Aspen and back (to Colorado Springs 3.5hrs each way), driven to Estes park and back (4hrs each way) and camped in Rocky Mountain National Park. Its ready for more adventures and a caring owner.
