This rare Coupe was owned for 45 years by the same guy in Delaware and was his college car. It was originally brought into the USA by a serviceman or tourist delivery then traded to a local VW dealer Mid-Way Volkswagen in Wilmington Delaware. It was bought by a family friend then in the summer of 1972 by prior for use at college. It was restored in 2006-2015.
Bought by current owner in the summer of 2017, it's a nice original restored T34 daily driver. One of 119 T34s from 1967 that have survived. Enjoyed very much by current owner over the last two years. Hesitant sale due to finances.
Color-sanded car in 2018 & deep polished, purchased custom $500.00 "Pedro" T34 roof rack, Bought $500.00 correct Emden AM-FM radio from Germany (SEE PHOTO OF EMDEN INSTALLED, 3rd to last photo), bought $300.00 vintage VW under-dash parcel tray, bought $250.00 cocomats.com custom coco mats. Fog lights repaired and in great working order.
Great driver, very original---interior seats, carpet, dash, etc 100% OG. Exterior has a re-paint. Was hit from behind in 1976. Kept by owner in storage until 2003-2014 when he performed a mechanical and exterior restoration, installed/welded a rear clip from a donor T34. Very clean job on clip, can not see weld line at all. Engine completely rebuilt using new parts.
This Type 34 runs great---however, after it is warmed up, there is a slight acceleration faltering at low rpms (2500 rpms or so) in 2nd gear. Only for a few seconds, then shifting into 3rd gear, all is fine. Most likely it is a carb issue---may need cleaning or adjustment. Purchased a rebuilt T34 distributor, which helped improve/increase running performance. Drives strong, maintains 75 mph + on freeway with ease. Very enjoyable driving car!
Needs elastic replaced in door pouches, as they sag. Seats have tears along seam--easy fix. Paint is nice 'driver quality' however there is a poor blend on rear panel below vent window, driver side (see pic) and gaps on rear engine deck lid are slightly off.
