1984 LT31 Hightop Campervan   Price: Make an offer
Truly one-of-a-kind Volkswagen campervan up for sale. I purchased this from a gentleman in the United Kingdom January 2018 and had it shipped across the pond.

83,804 miles, 18' long, 8.5' tall and over 6' wide.

This beast is a 1984 LT31, 2.4L slant-six gasser, right-hand drive 5-speed. That said, you will need to be able to learn to drive while shifting with your left hand. Obviously, anyone who is fluid with a clutch should be the ones to respond to this ad.

This is not a vehicle to learn straight-drive on. I will help you find the gears and spend time with you showing you how to drive it. From there, it is just a matter of muscle memory. You're not going to win any races in this thing, but it will move down the highway at 65-70mph, 40-45mph in the steeper mountain grades. I live in the mountains.

This van is road ready and a blast to camp in. Dubbed "The Whale," it is head-turner every where it goes. There are 2 upper bunks, but they are more useful for storage than sleeping unless you install a safety net. I am 6'6", and I love the hightop even though I have to stoop a little. Anyone 6'3" and under can easily stand up and move around comfortably. Beautifully done interior!

The dinette converts into a spacious bed, and shorter adults can even sleep widthwise. There is plenty of storage underneath the dinette seats with one bin reserved for leisure batteries for off-grid camping. 30-amp equipped for shore power with one ac outlet inside.

Rear speakers with an auxiliary jack and volume knob for music, podcasts, etc while camping.

Sink (manual pump), single burner stove and refrigerator though not functional because of voltage requirements. Best to swap this out or use this area for storage.

Could use a front stereo and heater work. I drive this van about 5-6 times a year for camping trips with my wife and son. Otherwise, I keep it indoors at my commercial shop because of a small, driver's side lower window rain leak. There is a small oil leak from the oil filter that I am working on. Seam rust here and there and other rust, but nothing catastrophic. Undercarriage is good shape.

Front seats swivel, and table can be used in 2 different places. Overhead cabinets. One roof vent and 3 sliding interior windows for ventilation. It is a beautiful rig when the interior camping lights are on.

If you've read this far and are seriously interested, please call. I'll answer any questions you have.

Extra cylinder head and repair manual included. Any part I need, I source from a yard in the UK and most parts are 1980s VW compatible.

Clean title in hand. Open to all offers.
