1962 Convertible Karmann Ghia New 1835cc ,tranny   Price: 16900
Up for sale is a very dry solid 1962 convertible Ghia on a 1966 pan. 1966 pan has stock ball joint front end(rebuilt a while ago with low miles) the transmission on the 1966 has a taller gear than the 62 tranny(not a freeway flyer). The tranny is rebuilt(Bugformance tranny) and barely has 500 miles on it.Pan has no weld in sections just a nice stock 66 pan. Heater channels, rocker panels and nose are all very nice with no rust or excessive bondo. This is a very nice driver. Very fast, but built for dependability or excessive horse power. I built this for my wife so you know I wanted it to be a nice dependable driver. Recently we drove this to Lake Tahoe about 90 mile drive one way with lots of hills. We drove the Ghia 70mph plus up and down the hills. Drove great, handle good, stopped well for a classic car.

New rebuilt 1835cc engine. Dual relief case, German polished 8 dowel crank,69x92 thick wall pistons, German rods, aligned bored .40,new Engle 110 cam, full flow new oil pump, dual port heads, rebuilt Kadrons dual carbs, bosch 009 distributor, new 12 volt alternator, new fuel pump. Case is tapped for external oil cooler and dog house oil cooler. So what does all this engine stuff mean? Basically it was built right , it is way bigger than stock motor. It has the best stock oil circulation VW case ever made and then upgraded to high flow oil pump to the oil faster to cool better and it has the best factory VW oil cooler (Dog house) made in addition to that it has an external oil cooler and extra oil filter to cool it even better. So stock VW motor in 1962 was 40hp (1300cc) a stock 1600cc engine is around 55hp and this 1835 cc engine is around 100hp. ONLY 500 miles on this 1835cc engine.

Transmission is also rebuilt with only 500 miles on it. 1966 transmission has the taller gears like the 1967 transmission, but not a freeway flyer. New trannny mounts, and new boots too. 12volt flywheel, new clutch

All new brakes also only 500 miles on them. So new shoes, wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new rubber brake lines, new parking brake cables.

Porsche speedster wheels and hub caps , like new tires

Interior, is all new. New Pea Green seat, door panels. Small tear on lower bottom back seat, new carpet kit, New convertible top, armature convertible top installed . should be unstapled at bottom tack strip and shifted over about an inch to line up better. Also rubber seals are new on convertible top to side glass are not installed in the correct position and that makes it impossible to roll the door glass windows up properly(some what easy fix). New windshield and seal , but glass has scratches on it. new trunk, hood and door rubber seals too. Real mahogany wood trim , steering wheel is is real wood with a Porsche horn button, real wood sifter knob, real wood e brake handle, real wood dash knobs and real wood trim at top of the doors. Bamboo under dash shelf. Locking gear sifter allows you to lock the tranny in reverse gear or neutral , this is a great option to keep your car from being stolen. Over all the interior looks very nice and i get a lot of complements on the interior.

Paint and body. I am not sure what the factory color was, but this Ghia has a almost perfect body (one door ding). Very straight body professionally done, however it has about a dozen deep scratches that showed up right after being painted, I believe this was a chemical reaction from the paint to the body glaze. My guess was that the body work had not dried properly before it was painted. From 10 feet it looks excellent, but on close up you will find the deep scratches , see the pic of the windshield squinter so you know what I am talking about. This car was painted about 20 years ago and been garage stored since then. I bought the car as a rolling shell with the paint flaws, but they did not bother me and i wanted a driver I did not have to fear of door dings and parking lot scratches so I put the car back together as is. Still this is a very nice car with a very nice body and no rust or excessive bondo anywhere.

1962 Ghia, 1966 pan, I believe the body shop that did the body work and pan switch over, installed an ID tag with the 1962 body #s over the old vin #s on the 1966 pan. They riveted the new ID tag on.

Electrical, All lights, turn signals and gauges work as they should. Has a factory style Tach ,restored speedometer, electric fuel gauge, under dash horn bottom, very loud horn. upgrade 1969 12volt wiper with two speeds.

Over all this is a very nice Ghia that is ready to drive anywhere now, No oil leeks, clean California title, current registration. I have over $20k in this Ghia I am not desperate to sell it, so no silly low ball offers. I already have 5 classic cars so I am not going trade unless the trade is to my advantage. My price is fair and sober, if you have the ability to be fair too than you can make me a fair offer. $16,900

If you want a stock 1600cc motor instead of the 1835cc performance motor I can install a good used 1600cc D/P engine with about 20k miles on it. I will lower my price if you want the 1600cc motor instead of the 1835cc.

I will take most forms of payment, but if you pay with a check the car can not leave my garage until the check clears at my bank.
