1956 Oval Window VW   Price: $10000
Selling my 1956 VW bug “Garage Find”.

I found this bug sitting in a garage in 2010. Here are some photos of how I found it: http://www.bigbluevw.com/2010/09/1956-vw-work-day-thinking-of-master.html. It had sat in that garage since the early 70s with the engine and transmission out. Here is some more detail on the life of the bug: http://www.bigbluevw.com/2010/10/history-of-our-1956-vw-bug-as-we-figure.html

Since buying it in 2010, I stripped all the engine tin off and had it powder coated. I also had the wheels powder coated and put new tires on. I have stored it in a garage until this spring, when we moved. Since then, it has been outside. I realize that this car needs to go to someone with the time to work on it. And I want to sell it before the rains hit, as it would be a shame for this car to sit outside over the winter.

The car needs a fair amount of work after sitting for over 45 years. The car is solid and the pans seem very rust free. Engine and transmission are still out. 36 HP Engine is non-matching numbers and needs to be rebuilt. I got a different transaxle after getting this car, so it is not original but is the correct transaxle. All engine tins, bumper supports, etc, have been powder coated black. Aside from an engine rebuild and a new fuel and brake systems, this bug needs a new rear apron. The rear apron was cut out (rather than unbolted!) back in the 1970s. I have the cut out metal but it would need to be welded or you’d need a replacement piece. I believe the only parts missing from this car are the muffler and the bumpers.

Car is originally jungle green. The exterior has been sprayed over at least once in a color close to original. The interior needs work as the seats are ripped and sewn back together.

Chassis # 1-1026474
Engine # 2,322,092 (seems to be from 1958)
Color: exterior: L 315 jungle green
Upholstery - leatherette: 73 dark green

Car is located in Napa, California. Please email if interested.
