1954 Barndoor 23 Window Deluxe, Fun Driver!   Price: $160,000
1954 Barndoor 23 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus, Fun And Solid Driver!

Here's a genuine and partially original paint Barndoor 23 Window that has several cool features and some of you who have been in the Bus scene for a long time may recall from many years ago.

Some of those features include:

*The Chestnut Brown is original paint

*It's a factory 6 popout window Bus with spoon latches.  Is there another factory 6 popout window Barndoor 23 in the world?  Maybe, but we can't recall ever having seen another!

*Mostly original large logo SEKURIT glass and original-to-the-Bus Plexiglas corner windows and original Barndoor Deluxe-only jail bars, too

*All correct seats including Barndoor 6 leg middle and Barndoor rear seat

*The lower body metal work was done by Charlie Hamill decades ago and was done with very clean and dry original metal from a Barndoor Kombi as the donor!  The decklid was NOS at the time it was installed, too.  Keep in mind, this is way before the existence of replacement metal and a very good Barndoor Kombi was sacrificed to give this Deluxe a better life.  NEVER would happen in this day and age but that was the way things happened years ago.

*This Bus was featured in an old Transporter Garden calendar with provocative photos of girls in and around it years ago, prior to the grey primer being sprayed on the low half of the Bus.  I have most of those calendar pics posted in the full gallery album link below, not just for the entertainment value, but also because you can clearly see how clean and original the Bus is as well as the remarkably small amount of welding it required.  Do yourself a favor, don't view the pics at work, and definitely not around your lady!

The body is way above average, impressively straight, solid, and features all the correct Barndoor doors, seamed doglegs, 3 post emblem nose, long ribbed front bumper, etc.  The Barndoor decklid was NOS at the time it was installed.  The top half of the Bus is still displaying the original and strong Chestnut Brown paint, too.  The photos from before the grey primer will demonstrate just how solid and original this Bus was from the start.  You simply cannot compare this Bus to the modern day reconstruction/recreation Barndoor builds that are largely built from non-German aftermarket replacement metal.

The interior is mostly complete and includes the original-to-the-Bus interior panels, original-to-the-Bus rubber floor mats (both showing their years), very nice original ivory steering wheel and horn button, excellent and working original 1954 Deluxe clock, correct and original rear view mirror and sun visor assembly, beautiful and correct snowflake kick panels, lots of original Sealing Wax Red paint showing in places, and the seats were all restored years back by West Coast Classics.  Other details to note include the correct Barndoor Deluxe ashtray, beautiful restored speedo and pod, nice original spoon popout latches, original rear luggage strips and rear deck luggage bar, original early coat hooks, the more you look, the more you see!  This Bus wasn't vulturized and reassembled from loads of incorrect, late model, or reproduction parts!  This is a proper and very respectable, legitimate, Barndoor Deluxe, that has always remained impressively intact with most of the critical original German parts.

Mechanically the Bus is fully turnkey, stock, and a nice driver.  It features a very nice running 36hp engine with a few upgrades so that it now produces over 42hp, a stock Barndoor reduction gear transaxle, lever shocks, stock brakes, 6 volt electrics, and a set of nicely restored Barndoor 16 inch wheels with trim rings and bias ply tires, too.  I have a couple videos of the engine starting and running as well as a video of the Bus driving down the road.  It runs beautifully as you'll see.

Overall this is a very respectable and real deal Barndoor Deluxe, probably the only 6 popout Barndoor Deluxe you'll ever have a shot at or see, and most of us early Bus lovers would kill to have it!  Is it a candidate to peel back to as much original paint as possible and then blend as necessary?  Yes, but that all depends upon your skill set and patience.

Here's your chance!  Thanks!
