Amazing, Mostly Original 1978 Deluxe Westfalia   Price: 20000
TLDR – 1978 Westfalia Deluxe, 88,000 miles, mostly original, $20,000. Great shape – ready to go…
I’ve owned it for just over 6 years. It came from southern California. It is mostly original, and a shade over 88,000 original miles. It runs great – it is my daily driver from May thru October. I park it in a garage during the winter. It is tough to sell – but I’ve got too many cars, and I’m trying to simplify to one car I drive year round.

Neat Features (in no particular order)
a. Child's cot for over front seats
b. Front table – (for between driver and passenger seat)
c. Rear table
d. Deep Cycle Aux battery – with Blue Sea charging relay
e. Fridge, stove and sink works
f. Propane tank upgraded
g. Upgraded 70 Amp Alternator
h. Passed CA emissions back when I bought it in 2014. I have had it registered in New England ever since, and have not needed to have that tested.
i. A bunch of parts come with it…
j. New Pioneer Radio with Bluetooth, and mini – mi mounted about driver, which works great for phone calls
k. Catalytic converter in decent shape
l. Original screen for rear hatch
m. Original Tent – screen has been replaced
n. Sun Shade for front windshield
o. Protective carpet over original carpet has helped keep the original stuff nice and clean
p. Original upholstery – in great shape
q. Newer curtains – in excellent shape
r. Original locking gas cap

Bad Features
a. Surface rust around sliding door window
b. Surface rust on passenger side rear corner
c. Rust on driver side rear fender (I think this is the only serious rust)
d. Tiny leak on faucet – I think they all leak at swivel point. I have a replacement faucet.
e. Windshield washer spray works intermittently (probably needs new hoses)

Stuff you may want to address
a. Small oil leak where oil filter housing attaches to motor. This is probably a simple seal. I believe you need to remove engine to get at this seal. The leak is so small I have not worried about it.
b. Parking brake is not the best – I believe the cables need to be replaced, I’ve got new ones, but have not had time to install them. I think this will solve the problem.

Otherwise – I would not hesitate to drive this across country – actually I’d still do it as is, but if I had some free time, I would address those last two items. Recently tuned up by long time VW mechanic (I think he started working on these when they were new).
