1959 Kombi, Super Original, Original Safaris!   Price: $44,500
1959 Kombi, Original Paint, Interior, Engine, Original Safaris!  Cool M Codes, Low Miles, Time Capsule!

This exceptional Dove Blue 1959 Kombi has a feel that brings you back in time and a great story that explains how it is so original and unmolested still to this day, at 60 years of age!

Back in the 1970's, the Kombi was driven onto a farm near Princeton in the Similkameen Valley in South Western Canada by some hippy dudes.  Similkameen is a short distance North of Washington State.  It was parked in their barn, left there approximately 40 years, and was rescued a few years back by a crew of guys who were working on the property.  That time out of human hands and the elements has everything to do with how well preserved and intact it still is till this day.

It has now been revived, fully serviced, preserved, a set of original German safari windows added, the bumpers and wheels restored in the correct L82 Silver White, a new set of Firestone 6.40-15 bias ply tires installed, and it has been a reliable driver to loads of Southern California Bus events over the last 3 years.  If you've been to those shows and feel like you recognize the Bus, you likely do!

Some of the many features to note include the factory original Dove Blue paint, having all 3 correct seats in the phenomenal original grey upholstery, still having the original 1192cc 36hp engine, the original split case transaxle, the original 15 inch wheels, a set of nicely restored original safari windows that were installed by Charlie Hamill, and the Bus has a couple very cool and rarely seen M codes which are still remarkably shown stenciled onto the fan shroud including:

M178 RPM Limiter, 1200cc engine.  Yes, a factory installed governor on the 36hp engine.  Only seen a few of those still intact in over 30 years in the hobby!

M173 Engine prepared for arctic climates, heavy duty insulation in engine area.  There are insulating sleeves sewn over the heater boxes.  Only set I can ever recall seeing before.

The body is remarkably straight, unmolested, and is still wearing the factory L31 Dove Blue paint that has a super cool mild sun burn patina.  All of the doors are correct, ice pick cab doors, high hinge cargo doors, early rear hatch, church key decklid, and the crankstart apron, too.

The interior is as original as you'll ever see on an early Kombi, original paint, original panels, excellent original upholstery early grey Kombi seats, absolutely beautiful original dash, and a gorgeous original front floor mat, too.  The cab divider was made and installed way back in the day, is well constructed, and works well, so it has stayed as part of the cool story of the Bus' life.

Mechanically the Bus is a great driver, is driven often on Los Angeles area freeways, and it still has the original 36hp engine, split case transaxle, and of course the factory 6 volt electrical system as well.  It received a revival/mechanical servicing by Bus guru Charlie Hamill including rebuilt carb, rebuilt fuel pump, new brakes, and the bumper and wheel restoration, too.  The Firestone bias plies are near new and in excellent shape and a high quality Optima gel cell battery was installed, too.  When Charlie was performing the servicing, he suspected that the engine had never been removed, the factory carbon clutch throwout bearing was still in place, and for those reasons as well as the general condition, originality, and overall tightness and intactness of the Bus, it is *possible* that the roughly 22,000 miles showing on the odometer could be the original mileage.  The transaxle shifts and works well although first gear is a tad bit noisy.

Without a doubt this is a remarkable Bus, one that will resonate with the purists who love originality above all else. We certainly don't see many early Kombis in this kind of state of intactness and originality!  Thanks!

$44,500

Please note that this Bus is located in West Covina, California.
