1990 Syncro Westfalia fully set up Price: 49000
1990 Volkswagen Syncro Westfalia
This Syncro Westfalia was built using only the best of what is available and has pretty much every available option you can imagine.
Here are the specs of this beautiful camper-
The engine is a single cam OBDII Subaru 2.5 conversion that utilizes Smallcar performance aluminum oil pan and motor mounts. The Exhaust and air intake are KEP. A stock vangon muffler keeps it nice and quiet. A blazedcut fire suppression system is installed in the engine compartment.
The transmission and front diff have both been rebuilt by AA transaxle with Peloquin limited slip differentials installed both front and rear as well as factory locking diffs in both units. It also has a decoupler so this is a “triple knob” syncro !
Rounding out the drivetrain is a full complement of 16”/Porsche 930 CV joints with aftermarket custom torsional axles. The 16” front outer and 930 Porsche CV joints are much stronger than the stock syncro stuff and allow for more wheel travel as well. The wheels are VW “Rhein” 15” with BFG AT ko 215/75R15 Tires.
The suspension has all been completely redone with all the components powder-coated and new bearings and urethane suspension bushings installed both front and rear. The van has the latest version of Burley Motorsports billet upper control arms as well as a set of Burley’s custom 16” Spec rear arms with the weld flange removed for additional tire clearance. GoWesty fox remote reservoir shocks and Steve Schwenk springs are used to achieve a comfortable ride.
A front big brake kit has been installed with cross drilled vented rotors and a rear disc brake kit is used in the back.
For driver enjoyment a sexy big shot shifter has been added. Lighting is hella H4’s with a South African headlight grill. A vanagonlife center console has been installed.
The exterior of the van features GoWesty bumpers, VW factory 16” fender flairs, GoWesty front skid plate and a Burley rear swing away tire carrier
For your camping comfort the propane tank has been replaced and a propex heater has been installed. A Engle 12v refrigerator is used. A Fiamma F45 provides shade.
The poptop features a NorthWesty 3 window sunbrella tent.
Two extra large flexible solar panels are installed on the poptop and a custom aluminum underbody battery tray holds the house batteries under the frame (opposite of the propane tank). A blue sky mttp solar charge controller manages the solar system.
The van also has a very large professionally installed stereo system that uses a Alpine double din head unit. It’s got every feature you can imagine. Cross overs, subs, tweeters, reverse camera etc etc. You got to see (and hear) this system to fully appreciate it.
The van also has dual AC (Behr front and stock rear) as well as power windows, mirrors and door locks. The door locks are controlled by an aftermarket alarm system.
Although this van is currently registered in Washington state I believe it would be possible to get it smogged and registered in California. I would be happy to talk with serious buyers about getting this done. The van was in California for most of it's life and sports a California BAR coded label for a Subaru 2.2 engine conversion.
The body is in good condition and is straight and as rust free as you would expect from a California car. It does however sport a few battle scars from it's adventures. It's got a small dent in the left rear corner from the spare tire swinging all the way around. It's also got a few blisters showing on the rear of both front wheel wells where the wheel wells were enlarged (this was done by Warren Chapman).
The odometer currently shows 184k miles on the body.
