Best in world? 1971 Tin Top Westy bus Concours   Price: $125000
1971 VW Bus Westfalia tin top camper

This is the result of a determined craftsman spending 10 years of his spare time to build the ultimate camper bus as he saw it. This was the builder's first car, a California bus with no rust, since it was his first car there was extra passion put into the work. A no expense spared comprehensive restoration with insane details and engine improvements for modern traffic drivability. Complete strip down to bare metal and full paint Pastel White L90D job done by show winning Bus painter Jimmy Braxmeyer (http://www.vintagevwrestoration.com/press/) the cost of the paint work alone was more than most buses sell for. This restoration has just been completed and there are only 500 miles on it so far - fresh restoration for the new owner!

Chassis work included locating original parts or finding high quality reproductions to build it to original condition (not an easy task). The inside of the bus was properly sound & temperature insulated (drives quiet), cabinets all refinished with high grade woods and correct laminate. Insane details like a fabricated ice box insert and factory new looking Repa seatbelts with date coded silk labels should give you an idea how involved this was. New glass throughout and new jalousie windows, great effort was done to find high quality rubber seals and front door seals that actually work. Trim, bumpers, Hella/Bosch lenses, fit & finish is all as new or better - you can not get a bus to look this "right" with low cost reproduction parts.

Mechanical work was the primary focus, a bus that can keep up with the traffic of today is what was designed. Stock power disc brakes were rebuilt to a high level, the front beam was completely rebuilt and detailed, rear suspension too. The engine and transmission are incredible - powered by a dual port 2074cc using a 78mm stroke 92mm pistons (machine in type), original carburetor/distributor/fuel pump slightly modified to work on larger engine, intake ported & flow benched, electronic engine management system (can be viewed on laptop or phone), major lubrication and oil cooling upgrades - will never overheat - even in Death Valley. Stock heater boxes with stainless steel Ahnendorp exhaust. Transmission was rebuilt and has freeway flier gears that in combination with the added horsepower allows this bus to easily pull hills and it runs 75mph on the highway - keeping up with modern traffic was the goal. With this bus you can drive up mountains in 4th gear without constant downshifts like all the stock buses do. To understand the scope of the undercarriage work one only needs to look at the pictures.

As far as price we have to start somewhere, there is a comprehensive build sheet with totals in the 6 figure neighborhood. You are welcome to start a thread and tell people how there is no way we should ask this price or we also welcome positive posts as well. If you dig you can find the builder on the forums here as The Samba was a big part of the building of this vehicle. He has handed off the sale of his beloved bus to me to avoid dealing with the public. In short there is nothing to complain about except the price is higher than others, while that is true the quality level can not be found anywhere else. If you are interested in a very high qaulity bus then give me a call and let's discuss. If you want to have the ultimate bus for local camping, cruises or shows and you are dissapointed in the general quality of used buses then this is the absolute best you could find of this model and year - also happens to be the most desirable model year in many enthusiast's minds.
