This Vanagon Campmobile has always been garaged and cared for. Odometer is at 96k Miles. This is the top of the line with all available options such as automatic transmission air conditioning power windows central locking heated mirrors and GL trim. This 1987 model is the first year with gray interior and the last year with classic chrome bumpers. Original paint is smooth as glass. Interior is all original and in like new condition. The van has been gone through from top to bottom to bring everything back to original factory specs. and in perfect working order. Only new OE parts mostly from Gowesty were used where needed. Included are lots of accessories such as the large Bus Depot awning with screen panels all around, sliding door and rear hatch screen, rear tent, spare parts, original documentation. Includes the following updates: separate house battery (AGM) runs lights, stereo, 12V outlets and sink pump. Built-in AC Converter runs these devices when connected to shore power. Below is the Service History while the Vanagon was in my possession. I put emphasis on reliability and to ensure every detail is factory correct.:
Engine: Engine is a 95HP genuine VW warranty replacement with improved cooling flow. All rubber replaced. all sensors replaced including Bosch no-splice O2 sensor. Super clean engine, oil service performed on time.
Auto-trans: Serviced 2 years ago. Shifts perfect, no leaks.
Cooling: Flushed coolant. replaced hoses & 3-speed fan motor with NOS OEM unit.
Drive axles: Rebuilt: cleaned CV joints, new grease and 4 new OE boots.
Exhaust: New muffler, hangers and tail pipe. Exhaust header bracket installed.
A/C: Converted to 134a . Works well. AC fan switch rebuilt. drain lines cleaned.
Fans: Front and under bench fresh air/ heating fans cleaned, all seals replaced, ballast resistors replaced, motors oiled, fan switches rebuilt.
Steering: Replaced power rack boots and tie rod ends. 4 heel alignment done.
Brakes: Rear brakes redone incl. wheel cylinders. Drum turned. Front brakes have about 30k miles left on pads. Brake fluid flush performed.
Fuel system: Resealed gas tank with Gowesty kit. Replaced all gas lines incl. to auxiliary tanks. Eliminated bulk head fitting. Replaced fuel regulator, filter and fuel pump.
Wiring: All wiring checked, cleaned, repaired as needed. All connections in engine compartment treated w/ anti corrosion dielectric grease.
ECU: Rebuilt to assure long term reliability.
Radio: Original Blaupunkt Heidelberg tape unit rebuilt. Comes with valid CODE. Speakers replaced with Pioneer in original factory holes.
Glass: Replaced windshield (stone crack) with OE windshield. Inspected body flange - no rust. Installed by specialist. All other glass perfect.
Refrigerator: Removed - cleaned. New heavy duty cooling fan. All 3 modes work great.
Water system: Tank and all tubing sanitized in March 2020. New sink pump. New sink drain unit. New extra heavy duty city water connector. Refurbished faucet.
Propane Sys: Propane gas regulator replaced.
Odometer: Was very unreliable. Previous owned had to have it repaired several times. I had to repair it twice: Problem: when backing up more than two car length the axle of the odometer stack pulls out. and disconnects the drive gear. Now fixed permanently with retrofit bracket. Current mileage close, but obviously short some miles.
cluster: All gages work perfect. Clock was replaced 3 times but LCD keeps turning black from brake fluid vapor after a few month..
Batteries: Main battery good, 4 years old. House battery good (AGM type), 3 years old. Battery compartments are absolutely clean and free of corrosion.
Tent: Water proofing applied. Recently fabric got caught in hinge and put 3" tear. Upholstery shop fixed it with fabric sourced from tent manufacturer
Tires: Replaced 2 years ago with Yokohama 195/ 75 R14 Super Van reinforced side wall tires. About 75% life left.
Spare tire: Full size alloy wheel with older good tire.
Headlights: All mounting hardware (HTF) replaced.
Performed all service updates: Elimination of fire wall gas fitting, added relay to starter solenoid, exhaust header support bracket, hot footwell update.
