1987 Vanagon Westfalia Camper   Price: 35250
We are selling our 1987 Westfalia Camper that we purchased in May of 2016. I really don't think we were ever the owners of this camper, we were more like caretakers. The current mileage now reads 76,938 original miles. We purchased it with 65,775 miles in May of 2016. If you don't count the dealer we bought it from there were two other owners. The original owner we were told was an airline pilot for Piedmont Airlines. He was the owner until he sold it in about 2015. This Camper was bought in Decatur Georgia and lived in Willmington, North Carolina and went to it's second owner somewhere around Springfield Missouri. The second owner didn't keep it long and sold it to Cap City Motorsports of Plain City, Ohio. This is were we acquired the van. Cap City Motorsports was an advertiser on Samba for a number of years, but I don't think they are still in business.

We had trips and adventures camping in the Westfalia to Marathon and Key West, the Wisconsin Dells, we did the entire Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, Gulf Shores Alabama, and Kelly's Island as well as other Ohio camping. During our time with the Camper it even went to 5 car shows including one all Volkswagen show and has gone 5 for 5 always coming home with a trophy.

As you can see from the pictures and pile of paperwork we have probably all the paperwork from about October 1997 and 23,750 miles to the present. There is even the original Dealer window sticker. We do not personally have much in the way of paperwork, because the person that does our work is a “cash only” kind of old timer that has worked on VW's for next to forever. Most recently he replaced the coil, points, new wires and a bunch of hoses and vacuum lines and pressure washed the whole engine. He also was the one that solved a recurring problem that shows up in the paper work with a oil pressure switch. The wrong switch had been installed.
Of note is the ECM was originally replaced in January of 2002 and again in October of 2014. In August of 2015 the air conditioning had a major service and was converted to R134a. There are only two issues that I currently know of. The first is while everything works on the air conditioning it is not holding a charge for more than a couple of days. I recharged the system and it worked fine. Five days later we turned it on and it ran fine as we left for a overnight camping trip A few miles down the road it slowly stopped blowing cold air. Haven't gotten back to it yet. The second is the passenger power window. Sometimes it goes up very slowly and pauses.

Overall, I feel like I could have started this description saying sometime like “possibly one of the nicest and most original low mileage Vanagon Westfalias in the United States.” The Camper is 33 years old and does have some blemishes and chips in the paint. The wheels are not original and are a slightly larger. That said, everywhere we go people are amazed by it and cannot believe it's condition. The price of $35,250.00 is the price we paid on the title when we bought it. We hope we have been good caretakers, because we sure had fun with it.
