This 1961 VW bug has spent its entire life in North Carolina. It was owned by a well-known mathematics professor Leonard Carlitz (Duke University).

Upon his passing, his mechanic took ownership to sell the car and I purchased it from him. (That was approximately 4 years ago.) It's virtually a two-owner 1961. My intent to buy was to restore it, but a very busy life curtailed this near-term possibility—so I have decided to sell it to a well-intentioned buyer. With VWs of this age, there are quirks, but this one has a wonderful nature about it nonetheless.
It's still a 6-volt (self-charging) and it drives very well. Almost everything is original except the rear lid. I think it's a 63/64—regardless this VW is something very difficult to find, especially in this area. In 4 years I have accrued 10k of the rebuilt 79,615k miles. New tires, new battery, new generator, and regulator, recently changed oil, pans and heating channels are solid but have some surface rust; this model doesn't have the fuel gauge, it has the 3-position fuel tap—always a fun time.
