1978 Camper Bus – Riviera Edition Price: $24000
|
Clean Georgia Title / 142,000 Original miles / $24,000 firm
Rebuilt engine / Garaged for last 10 years / Walk-thru style
Engine – This is the original GE series 2 liter engine, with matching engine number stamped on the engine block. This fuel injected type-4 engine was the largest engine Volkswagen made for the Bay Window buses. Engine Out (Top End) Rebuild at 125,700 miles using Hoffman headers; replaced pushrods, fuel injectors, voltage regulator, fuel and vacuum lines, temp sensors, alternator and upgraded engine parts to BOSCH whenever I could find them; added a tachometer to the dashboard; added 3 DAKOTA DIGITAL gauges to underside of dash to indicate cylinder head temp, oil temp and oil pressure. Best of all, the EGR system was already removed by a previous owner before I tool ownership!
Electrical - battery for main engine is a BOSCH AGM sealed battery (760 CCA), mfr warranty for free replacement until 8/2022. Alternator is also BOSCH, rebuilt with a Lifetime Replacement warranty from Atlanta Auto in Marietta. Coil, condenser, points – all BOSCH. Voltage regulator also has a lifetime mfr warranty. Upgraded the aux battery to a deep cycle AGM.
Body/Interior - replaced stereo to add remote/USB/Bluetooth; upgraded door speakers to JBL; upgraded headlights to LED; added an under-dashboard shelf (see the pics!); replaced door panels; added 80mm KILMAT noise suppression on floorboards and wall panels; added two CLA ports to dashboard; added shift pattern to ash tray in dashboard; added a stick shift extension; replaced both rear view mirrors and window crank handles; replaced sink faucet; added VW logo mud flaps (with the CORRECT logo); upgraded antenna to a “no break” spring antenna; upgraded windshield wipers; added a 2” trailer hitch for (light) towing.
Upholstery - I had the jump-seat and the pop-up cushions reupholstered in 2020 by J&S Auto Upholstery in Buford, Ga. The Z-bed upholstery was replaced by a previous owner (see pics); upgraded front cab seats to recliners with pull-down armrests (I still have the original seats); upgraded front cab seatbelts to RETRACTABLE belts.
Paint - It has been resprayed once in the original “Brilliant Orange” factory color, about 14 years ago.
Tires – The tires on the Bus (14” Hancook RA08 radials) are the correct type and were OEM to Volkswagen.
Body – minor surface rust in the battery tray and edge of windshield (see pics). Both batteries are kept inside (plastic) battery trays.
More pics available upon request. Selling the Bus to start a different project, so not interested in trades.
