1956 Polar Silver Oval, Fresh Restoration!   Price: Sale Pending
1956 Polar Silver Oval Window Beetle, Super Fresh Bare Metal Restoration!

This gorgeous model 113 Deluxe Oval was built on August 23rd, 1955 and was delivered to the legendary Competition Motors Ltd., Hollywood, California on August 29th, 1955.

The original owner lived in Los Angeles and the car remained there until around 1978 when it moved to Felton, California, just north of Santa Cruz. The current owner lives in Carmel Valley, California, so this beauty has spent its entire life in California after having arrived from Germany.

The restoration was very recently completed and has approximately 50 miles since being finished. This was a complete body-off-pan and bare metal restoration leaving no stone unturned in the process. The combined talents of several very well-respected specialists including:

*Engine Case Preparation, Rimco
*Engine Machine Work, Skip's Machine Shop
*Engine Assembly and Brake System Restoration, Jim Fowler, Get Hot Bug Shop, Monterey, California
*Starter and Generator Restoration, NOS Voltage Regulator, NOS German Muffler, Rick Clark
*Fuel Pump and Carburetor Restoration, Ed Fall
*Engine Tin Powdercoating, Finishing Touch, Monterey
*Body and Pan Media Blasting and Epoxy Prime and Paint, Jones Sandblasting
*Paint and Body, Empire Restorations, Sand City, California
*Interior, West Coast Classics, Fullerton, California
*Chrome, Meclec Inc, Fresno, California
*Steering Wheel Restoration, Ruben Velasco
*Speedometer Restoration, Corona Ryan, Orange Empire Speedometer

The approach to the restoration was to use as many original German or NOS parts as possible rather than simply buy inferior reproduction parts out of a catalog. That extra effort includes having restored and rechromed the original German and VW stamped bumpers as well as rechroming the original German hubcaps, too. Both were much more expensive options than reproductions but that effort shows in the quality of the finished product!

The body was removed from the pan, both were fully media blasted bare, and amazingly no rust repair was needed. The only panel replacement required was the rear apron which was done with an excellent quality unit supplied by Autocraft. The metallic Polar Silver paint and body is very nice, not your average quickie job for a driver, but nice enough to really be proud of. The fit and finish is very good and the overall appearance is excellent, as you can see from the extensive album of pics.

The interior is very faithful to original including the red seat upholstery and door panels, the German square weave carpeting, and the gorgeous mohair headliner, too.

Mechanically this 1956 model year Oval features a very closely numbered September 1955 production 36hp engine (car was built late August, 1955), a full synchro transaxle for added driving comfort, stock suspension, stock brakes, and a 6 volt electrical system, too. It starts right up with the new Optima battery, idles nicely, and drives beautifully, too. Other details to note include the new and expensive Coker radial wide white wall tires mounted on the correctly restored stock 15 inch smoothie wheels, restored brake system including new master cylinder, and new shock absorbers front and rear as well.

This one runs and drives as nicely as it looks!

This is your chance to own an exceptionally nice and fresh Oval Window Beetle in a lovable color and at a significant savings compared to the cost to bring it to this level!

Yes, it even comes with the old 1988 dated Birth Certificate from Volkswagen of Germany. Thanks!
