1990 Westfalia 1.9TD AAZ For Sale
Looking for someone to give this bus a continued life on the road. I am selling because the DMV will no longer let me register with the current engine. This adventurous 1990 Westfalia camper has been converted to have a 1.9 TD AAZ. It runs great, gets 20-25 mpg, has many upgrades and has lots of life left. It was originally converted to diesel by a previous owner in 2008 and was considered smog exempt until last year when I received a smog check notice. Upon inquiring, I found out that the California DMV does random audits that uncover improperly registered conversions. There is a common process that people use that avoids the required BAR inspection to somehow register as diesel. Again, I didn't do the conversion so I do not know how that works but I now have to deal with the consequences and cannot hold anyone accountable. I would love to keep this bus and keep adventuring in it, but I decided to pass on doing another conversion or use options like registering as a nomad in South Dakota.
The chassis is high mileage (~340k) but the suspension and braking systems have been reworked and upgraded and there is not much bad rust. It was originally maroon and has a still decent looking forest green coat of armor on the outside. As you can see in the photos there are a couple areas that have been touched up or are showing some rust underneath, particularly on the driver side where there is a large section of bondo that has recently opened up. Is there more? Likely but not apparent. I recently peeled tha bondo chunk off and will clean up the rust and coat in primer.
If you have made it this far and are still interested. Email me and I will share an album with more photos plus a video with sound of it running. If you get serious and want more detail of specific area, Ill take some more.
