1969 Ghia Coupe - Ready to Finish   Price: $9000
Overview - This vehicle has been in non-operational status since 1996, when the restoration started and the vehicle was disassembled. Current mileage is 89,490. No work has been done since 2012, when body work, rusty panel removal, and priming occurred. The car is very dusty, as much of the sanding was done without covering parts up. This vehicle is smog exempt. The car was running in 2012, although it has been mostly sitting since. There is a towbar for the car, with towing light setup. From the restoration work done between 1996 and 2006, and the bodywork done in 2012, the restoration is over 50% complete. I have the original owner’s manual and a shop manual. I have three large bins with the parts not on the car, along with the needed nuts bolts and fasteners. Lots of other parts need to be cleaned before being re-installed.
Interior - There is still some sanding and painting to be done on the interior before installing the carpets, door panels, and heater ducts and cables. I have new seat belts and shoulder harnesses, but there needs to be an anchor point welded in before they can be installed. I have the arm rests, door panels for front and rear, window cranks, and door latches. The steering wheel is the original, and I have the horn ring. There is no radio, but the original hole has not been modified. The dash top and the dash face were new in 2006, and all gauges were refurbished in 2006. There is no headliner or interior light, but the wiring is intact. The front seats are original, with the original padding, but need new covers. I have both parts for the rear bench seat, but need new seat covers. I have the sun visors for the windshield. The wiring harness and all of the wiring has been replaced.
Exterior - I have all of the windows for the car, including a new windshield. The side windows are still in place inside the doors. There is a new seal for the rear window. The rear window and the two side rear windows were tinted. A new seal would be suggested, but the old seal is still useable. The front bumper was newly chromed in 2006, but it needs new chrome bumper bolts. The rear bumper needs to be bead-blasted and re-chromed. I have the Karmann Ghia trim for the rear engine cover, license plate light housing, torsion bar inspection covers and gas door. The car body needs work; finish sanding, another coat of primer and blocking and sanding before getting a coat of paint. All of the body parts that were removed are included. The wiring for the rear tail lights are in place, they just needs to be identified and connected. The wiring for the headlights are in place, they need to be installed, as do the amber turn signals. The back-up light is missing. I have the exterior door handles. A new wiper motor was installed with wiper arms. I have the headlights and chrome bezels, red taillights, and amber turn signals. I have the chrome trim for all of the windows, and the twin side trim pieces that line the lower part of the doors and front and rear quarter panels. I have the chrome trim for the front air ducts.
Engine and Transmission - The transmission was new in 2006, the motor was rebuilt in 2006 with new bearings, pistons, cylinders, heads, and valves. The engine runs strong at higher RPMs, but has not idled smoothly for a long time, probably due to the long time sitting. The gas tank was replaced in 1996. The battery is brand new in 2021
Suspension - The entire braking system was new in 2006, and at the time just needed to be bled. The tires on the car are near new, but have been sitting since 2012, and may have flat spots. The rims are from a Porsche 914, and they are rusty in some places. There is another set of rims that are included with the car. The undercarriage was completely refurbished in 2006, including the front axle and all connecting pieces and tie rods. It was not aligned by a professional alignment shop. All of the body pan and fender wells were undercoated. I have the original spare tire and the OEM jack.
