1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Campmobile   Price: $34900
Beautiful California car. Very original with some tasteful upgrades. Lots of $$ invested in the engine, suspension, brakes etc. to make this a reliable everyday driver. This bus really drives nice and easily hums along at highway speeds.

The Tin Top benefits in handling and performance by not having the additional top-heavy weight of the pop-top. In ’72, VW fitted the buses with the new more powerful twin carburated 1700cc "pancake" Type 4 engine. These Buses are commonly referred to as the "Porsche-powered" Buses because they have the same engine that was used in the Porsche 914 and Porsche 912E. These Type 4 engines are known to be incredibly smooth and make good torque. The 1972 also featured powered front disc brakes, which allows this bus to stop on a dime.

The cutaway diagram below shows the layout of this vehicles S0-69/2 Westfalia interior. The rear bench seat folds out into 75" long bed on the right side of the drawing. The SO-69/2 is a walk-through design with two individual bucket seats. Behind the front cab on the S0-69/2 Westfalia is a rear facing jump seat on the driver's side with a nice storage area underneath the removeable cushion. On the passenger side, the Westy has a cabinet with an icebox, 7.5 gallon water tank and a sink mounted above the 1.6 cubic foot icebox. A catch-all spice rack - shelf unit is mounted to outside of the ice box with a fold up table for a camp stove.

When opening the sliding door you’ll see a clothes closet, with an adjoining linen closet unit. The rear bench seat folds out flat to become a very well padded, sleeping space. The space beneath the rear seat hides a substantially sized storage locker for gear that you want to be safe from prying eyes. Access to the storage locker is by a front door or better yet, by tilting the platform for the bottom cushion upward.
