1957 VW Krankenwagen - Ambulance   Price: $53500
Originally from Pori Airport, Finland, where it was used rarely from the fall of 1957 until to the early 1980s. When, according to previous owners, the original engine broke, and ambulance was sold to an airport employee, who replaced the engine and used it as a camper van during summers.

This Krankenwagen has been driven only 28000 original KILOMETERS. EVER! Real km.

Body is in great shape. Dismantled for restoration somewhere around the Millenium, small welding repairs where needed mainly at the front wheel wells and NOS original VW side door sill was used too. Welding was made by respected professional and well-known VW enthusiast here in Finland. The Krankenwagen was painted inside and out with original VW L62 Ivory (elfenbein) color, bumpers in bright white. Restoration was finished in the spring of 2018 by the current owner. Lots of NOS parts were used: Front light lenses, taillights, brake light, all the door and rear hatch handles for example. New best quality seals were used all around. New fuel tank. New brake lines and hoses. New laminated windshiels and sideglass. Ambulance cabinet frames were reproduced at the rear compartment, as they were hacked off on some point by the previous owner. New Birch plywood at rear area, topped with rubber flooring. Seat upholstery, and rear compartment door cards are in original unrestored condition.

Electrics are converted to 12V, with working semaphores and hidden indicators for safety front and back. It has a reproduction ambulance fan for 12V (original included in project condition).

Engine is freshly renovated dualport 1641cc with great sounding Vintage Speed stainless steel exhaust, new carb, intakemanifold and 123-ignition. W100 cam, Feb lifters, mildly ported heads, 7.8:1 compression and running on 95e or similar gasoline (98e / premium not needed). Filter pump for oil. New bearings. Dynoed at 65hp, with different exhaust.

Flipped spindles at front with CSP disc brakes. Dual circuit master cylinder with C&C billet adapter. Trans is full synchro from late model Beetle with big Type3 wide 5 rear brakes. CSP Shifter, CSP adjustable spring plates, new adjustable tie rods on both sides and CSP stabilizer bar at front, only the best parts used! Original freshly restored West German steel EMPI Sprint Star Wheels by Lemmerz with fresh radial tires. Rides like a Champ! This bus is prepared to be enjoyed long trips safely with a peace of mind.

Original style 30ps (36hp) engine, crash gearbox with reduction boxes, front brakes (with a lot of NOS parts) and spindles will be included all in good working order. So it is easy to convert to a museum piece. 5 restored original wheels with cross-ply tires.

Most of the original ambulance equipment comes with the bus. As you can see on the photos assembled, and working are: the ambulance divider, Red Cross light, rear buzzer switches, back up light with rare original Hella switch at gear shift rod.

Also included are: 2 set of strechers (unrestored), original ambulance fan (project), restored ambulance step (removed because of the mild lowering), all original rear seats, table, drawer (original condition), siren horns (compressor missing), Flashing light for the roof. Missing is only the strecher rails.

As you can see, lotís rare, NOS, and best quality part$$$ were used to make this Bus to be enjoyed! Possible trade to aircooled Porsche 911 can be considered. Ambulance is located in Joensuu Finland stored in heated garage. Will be available for viewing at IKW Wanroij, BBT Open house and Hessisch Oldendorf 2022 meetings!

Project thread in Finnish of the assembly is online. Please note that Google translation does not work very well, as Finnish is very complicated language.

Genuine sale, I havenít traded much at The Samba due to remote location (Finland), but I have been into VW:s since early nineties and I have a lot of VW friends all over Europe, and some in US due my stay at Dallas in 1999, if references are preferred. Contact me at tipidwl(a)gmail.com for further enquiry and phone number.

Listing for a friend due heís a bit shy to use his English skills. I assembled the car for him in 2017 and did the suspension work in 2019, so I know the car very well. More pictures, videos and Whatsapp video call can be arranged. I will provide the phone number for the genuine buyer. Too bad I cannot afford this myself. Itís a bargain for the bus it is, your gain, his loss.

PRICE update June 2022 to 50 000Ä out right, OBO. Shipping to nearest port can be arranged on buyers expense.

Tons of pictures from the ownership of the current owner (2017-2022) can be found on this online folder:
