1965 VW Standard Kentucky Fried Chicken Bus   Price: $30k OBO
April 23rd, 1965 Volkswagen walk-through standard microbus. This is an original-paint unit; a Sealing Wax Red/Beige Gray bus manufactured for U.S. destination: UO (Port of New Orleans). It began its history as a catering vehicle for one of a handful of Harlan Sanders' original Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises: Frazier's Catering & KFC in Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana. I believe it was the last franchise Colonel Sanders sold before corporate bought him out in 1966.

The bus has not been on the road since 1974 or '75. It still has a very legible Louisiana state safety-inspection sticker at the base of the driver's side windshield from December of 1974. I initially purchased it from Blake's Auto Salvage in Erie, Colorado 20 years ago, and it was just a body sitting on blocks filled with various Korean car parts. It was part of their yard-wall. Since then, I stored it in west Texas for 11 years, then hauled it here to Oregon approximately 9 years ago, where I've added many of the missing parts with correct, OEM parts.

It has a stock '67 transaxle of unknown condition bolted in to make it roll, and the March 1965 1500cc engine (#9314972) should be okay minus the dropped valve which happened while sitting for 40 years. I slipped in a correct right front spindle/drum assembly, installed a nice set of original-paint wheels with two spares with all hubcap clips present, original hubcaps, a set of date-matching 4/65 14" deluxe beauty rings, and a original-paint swr front emblem. Also included is a pair of correct walk-through front seats and a rear seat-base & backrest, which need upholstery, plus a nice pair of original bumpers, complete, original headlight assemblies, original tail light assemblies, original front signal assemblies, excellent original rear apron, original deck-lid and gas-tank. If desired, I have a decent set of used, restorable salt & pepper interior panels which I will include along with various other small odds and ends. There is no middle seat.

The body is very straight and extremely clean. There is virtually no rust with exception to a section of the right side of the cargo floor which was cut out many years ago prior to my ownership, and needs repair. The left front cab-floor area needs repair and a repair-panel is included. The right side of the cab floor has a thin spot, and needs minor attention as well. I'm not sure if the area on the right side of the cargo floor was rusty or simply cut out by someone at Blake's. The cross-members, outriggers, and inner and outer rockers are solid, and the body is otherwise solid throughout. The roof is wrinkled from another car parked on it at Blakes, however, I did a fairly good job of straightening it. The damage was mostly toward the rear and it will need a new interior rear roof cross-member, which is included. The paint on the right rear of the exterior was burned off when the bus was close to a small structure-fire, long before I owned it, and it did not have an engine fire. It can easily be stripped and repainted in this area and on the interior-side.

The logos will need to be repainted, as I began restoring them a couple years ago, but stopped working on the bus when my dog passed away.

The bus is available to anyone and it would be good to see it stay in North America. This bus should to be brought back to its original glory within reason, which has been my original plan, but I'm out of time and moving out-of-state, and it needs to go to a new owner who will bring it back to life.

Price reduction; $30k U.S.d. or closest offer. No trades, please, however, I might consider a mint, very low-mile, manual 2014 Mini Cooper Clubman in trade. This is the only known original logo'd Kentucky Fried Chicken bus in existence and will restore very nicely. Bus has a clear Oregon title in my name.

The first seven photos were taken at random while I was beginning to restore the logos during the late Summer of 2020. The eighth and nineth photos are from January 2002, when I initially purchased and transported it, and the Spring of 1996 prior to my ownership. It is currently inside my shop in Christmas Valley, Oregon 97641.

Will sell to North America, U.K., Europe and Australia. I am able to arrange inexpensive over-the-road transport to the port of Oakland, California and assist in arranging shipping from this port. This service is for overseas buyers only. Otherwise, buyer should establish his/her own transport and shipping arrangements. Serious inquiries please. Thank you.
