1966 Double Cab, World Class Restoration! Price: $145,000
|
1966 Double Cab, One Of The Finest Restored On Earth!
This gorgeous Pearl White 1966 Double Cab originally sold brand new at Chick Iverson Volkswagen and Porsche in Newport Beach, California. In 1974 the current owner (who is a well-known top level collector in the early Bus community) purchased it and enjoyed it as his surfboard and band equipment transporter for many years. The Double Cab served as his work truck until 1988 when he began a remarkable bare-metal, rotisserie, and "all NOS parts" restoration. His thorough approach took several years to complete and once it was finished, it quickly started stacking up awards, trophies, and magazine feature articles including First In Class, Best Of Show, Best Commercial Bus, and many more.
Other significant accolades include having been selected as the top Commercial Bus at a Society OF Transporter Owners (SOTO) club meeting in Long Beach, California, having been chosen to be a participant at the "70 Years Of The Volkswagen Transporter" display at the prestigious Quail Motorsports Gathering in Carmel Valley, California, and most recently being on display at the world famous Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California as well.

The body and paint are beautiful and it has been completely refinished in the factory original color of L87 Pearl White. This isn't just another "top side" restoration as the underside, running gear, front suspension, truck bed, and gates are all as clean and exceptional as the rest of the truck. The bed is phenomenal with the beautiful wood slats and the gates are as mint as you'll ever see as they were NOS when installed!
The interior is extremely faithful to original and features too many NOS parts to list. For instance the Mesh Grey (Salt and Pepper) upholstery is actually NOS German! Talk about something that is hard to find! Very correct, super clean, as good as can be.
Mechanically this Double Cab runs like a Swiss watch and is as clean as they come. A proper 1500cc H case Bus engine, stock reduction box transaxle, stock brakes and suspension, and a set of correct 14 inch Bus wheels with grey commercial hubcaps, of course.
Overall this is a Double Cab for a guy who is seeking the cleanest high quality example available. One that has benefitted from a mature "pride of ownership" approach of the extremely knowledgable and passionate top level collector owner who has enjoyed it for the last 48 years! Plainly and simply, this is one of the best there is! Thanks!
