1953 German Standard Oval, Beautiful Car!   Price: $39,500
1953 German Standard Oval Beetle, Excellent Restored Example, Matching Numbers!

This gorgeous August 1953 Oval Standard was originally delivered to a Volkswagen dealership in Mannheim, Germany and sold to Mr. Heinrich Brixner. Mr. Brixner enjoyed and took great care of his Standard Beetle until 1986 when he sold it an advanced car enthusiast named Victor Ofner of Southern California. Victor chose this car not only account of the coolness and rarity but because it was a remarkably original and rust free example, too.

Victor shipped it back to California and performed a high end, body-off-pan restoration over a several year period. He used many NOS parts in the process, back when the crazy parts could be sourced! The 1953 was ultimately finished in 1995 and debuted at the Kelley Park Vintage Meet in San Jose, California where it took Best Of Show honors. It later was featured in HotVWs magazine and it has been pampered in mature advanced collector ownership since. The car still shines and presents beautifully today as you can see.

There are so many cool and particular features to note on this early Oval Standard including:

*German delivery so full European specification including Euro fluted headlights, European blade bumpers, rare 1953 KM speedometer, Ribbed Semaphores, etc.

*1953 Push Button Starting Button

*Zwitter style Interior Dome Light

*Wingnut Seats rather than sliding tracks like a Deluxe

*3 Spoke Steering Wheel as opposed to Batwing like a Deluxe

*Ribbed Doors

"Heart Taillights

*Flat Rear Apron with no exhaust cutouts

*Rare Original Flat Hood for Oval Standards

*Rare Early Standard Fenders without horn grills

*25hp Engine (yes, it's the original one as confirmed by the Birth Certificate from Volkswagen)

*Cable Brakes as opposed to hydraulic brakes on Deluxes

*Short Headliner for Standards

The more you look, the more you see! It's a very "minimalist" and "utilitarian" car with really nothing that isn't necessary!

The body and paint are in very nice shape considering it was finished approximately 27 years ago. The lacquer Jupiter Grey paint looks great although there are a small handful of flaws as are shown in the additional pics in the link below. Personally I'd choose to leave them alone and enjoy the car as it is but obviously that's up to the next owner. The fit and finish are very good and details are remarkably accurate.

The interior is very faithful to factory for what the Standard models came with. The "short" headliner, previously mentioned wingnut seats, cloth upholstery and door panels, carpeting, rubber mats, painted "non-chrome" handles correct for Standards, the radio block off plate, and the luggage rails behind the rear seat. Extremely clean and still very fresh.

Mechanically the car starts, runs, and drives very nicely. It features the original matching numbers 25hp engine which is dressed extremely well with so many rare early bits including the rare 1953 25hp intake manifold with the sharp bend in the heat riser on the passenger side, early generator with vented band, Bosch D regulator, flat top 383 distributor, flat top 25hp fuel pump, early pulleys, T can air filter, etc etc.! The car is currently running a normal split case transaxle with first gear non-synchro, basically for added drivability. The owner has a completely restored and mega rare, 1953-only, full crashbox transaxle for the car and it was freshly done by Rancho. If the car sells for the full asking price, that correct full crashbox transaxle will be included. Other details to note include the correct cable brakes, stock 15 inch smoothie wheels, Firestone bias ply tires, and of course it is still 6 volts, too.

Overall this is an interesting, rare, and super cool early Oval Standard with so many neat transitional features. It is very faithfully restored and was done from a well-cared-for car that was never abused or neglected over the last 7 decades so it is still in excellent condition today.

This is your chance to get a unique and genuine early Beetle that so few quality examples exist worldwide and at a price you absolutely could not beat if you bought a lesser example and tried to build it as nice! Of course that's also assuming you could find an original sheet metal and matching numbers transitional 1953 Standard in the first place! Thanks!

Reduced to just $39,500

Please note that this gorgeous Standard is located in Southern California.
