1964 VW Bug
This was last titled before me in 1993, mileage at that time was 56912 mi, so in the last 30 years it has only accrued approximately 3000 miles. Mileage now is at 60,030 miles, less then 500 miles since all the work below was done. Its a work in progress for the last 2 years.
ENGINE
Completely rebuilt 1600 cc with a dual relief late model case ( line bored, inserts and deck resurfaced, case drilled for full flow oil filter, dual port heads, new guides and exhaust valves, compression set at stock 7.5 ratio to run on todays fuel and live in the desert heat. New 85.5 mm piston and cylinder kit, 009 distributor with drop in electronic points replacement, late model Dog house fan w/alternator and dog house oil cooler, all engine tin in place with a new engine compartment seal. New 30 PICT carburetor with 30 PICT non adapter center section manifold, has stock air filter, all rubber fuel lines replaced with fuel injection line ( better quality and does not get rock hard in a few months ) stock heater box’s with header exhaust, new clutch, disk and throw out bearing.
TRANSMISSION
Rebuilt by RC Trans, 4.12 Ring and pinion, threaded super diff, heavy duty side cover, stock gearing but 3rd and 4th gears are welded, new transmission mounts, new shocks front and rear, i have the original transmission that was working when it was pulled, goes with car matching numbers to the car.
FRONT END and BRAKES
Front end was was completely disassembled and king and link pin bushings replaced. Front wheel bearings upgrade to taper roller bearings, all new brake shoes as well as wheel cylinders and rubber brake lines. Master cylinder replaced and flushed. Pedal assembly rebuilt, new clutch cable and hook along with new throttle cable.
New battery and starter, all lights upgraded to LED, 6 volt radio still in but does not work ( wires cut ), wipers have not been converted yet.
Shifter was replaced with correct one, shift tube hanger and bushing replaced (it was replaced right, last owner drilled the pan and used a bent bolt to hold the shift tube in place lol).
Car has some rust in a few areas but the pan is in great shape, battery box is intact, the worst rust is in the left rear bumper mount, I have a new replacement but haven’t got around to replacing it, I also have the rear bumper that goes with the car, maybe I’ll get around to fixing it so I can mount the oil filter mount and install the rear bumper. I plan on doing the seats so at least I can drive in comfort but that depends on weather it sells or not. The jack sockets need to be repaired ( I think they hit something or didn’t set the brake while trying to jack the car up and are twisted a little ), I plan on fixing them so it can be jacked up in the event of a flat, jack and handle along with a new spare are included along with a few tools and spare parts.
It’s fun to drive, I tried to do everything to make it road worthy, haven’t had any issues yet, but its a old VW.
