62 super cool Ruby red patina beetle.
Built on 09th August 1962 and delivered to Sweden on 13th August 1962.
The car spent its life in the very north of Sweden where there was no salt used on the roads in winter meaning rust is kept to a minimum. At the time of me coming across it the car had been parked in an outbuilding for some time and required full recommissioning. It had such a great look that i felt it deserved a little more and the car you see here today is the result.
Over a couple of years it was worked on and the body taken off to restore the pan and any areas around the lower body that needed improvement.
The pan and running gear are in really great condition ( see pics).
Pan blasted, new WW top quality pans fitted then etched, primed, raptored in selected areas and satin black painted.
New Eva Resto 4" narrowed adjustable beam.
New Eva Resto skid plate.
New Transporterhaus Adjustable stepped spring plates.
The gearbox and motor were removed, tubes, backing plates etc blasted and satin black coated. New cables throughout (handbrake, clutch, accelerator and heater), new clutch, new gearbox mounts. New gear oil.
The motor is the original 1200 which runs great, compression tests well and drives smooth, quiet and with plenty of 1200 power. All tinware blasted and powder coated. New exhaust etc etc.
New king and link pins. New brakes. New steering damper, steering disc and shocks. New steering rods and joints.
The body had some channel rust so a pair of genuine channels were fitted sourced from a rust free desert car. Original quarters, door post bottoms etc. Really good rust free car. In red paint under the fenders. The car looks restored from below but original from above which is just the way we wanted it.
Inside the car its lovely with an original unrestored feel due to the original headliner, door cards and seat upholstery. I did fit some new WW floor mats and new square weave carpet which look great and freshen it right up.
The dash is all original with the exception of the centre mounted fully functional rev counter and period woodrim wheel. It really is a lovely interior.
All doors, hood and engine lid open and close beautifully and latch closed with ease.
Window rubbers inc scrapers and quarterlight seals all replaced with BQ items. Correct red wing/fender beading was sourced and fitted. New german quality running boards. New seals around al lights, number plate light, turn signals, hood / bonnet and decklid. New body mounting rubbers and pan gasket. If it needed it its new and the best quality we could source.
4.5" and 5.5" fuch reps with new 135 and 185 tyres and Dice caps.
Starts, runs and drives great.
Lovely car with bags of character not not rough and ready like many patina cars.
