1991 VW Vanagon Syncro Westfalia - Very Upgraded   Price: 41000
1991 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro Westfalia

I have MANY photos and some videos available.

If you are looking for one of these, you already know what it is and how rare they are the last version of the Vanagon Syncro Westfalia. This one has been thoroughly and thoughtfully upgraded.

The engine has just been completely rebuilt (less than 2500 miles). This was a no-expense-spared rebuild. All bearings replaced, brand new NOS German rods were used, rare Kolbenschmidt 95mm pistons and cylinders with custom Total Seal rings, mildly ported heads with 3 angle valve job and ported intake manifolds, all fuel hoses replaced, injector rails replaced with billet aluminum ones, silicone intake boots, all new exhaust system installed, except for the hollowed out cat and muffler. A factory cat is included for areas that have emission testing. A custom oil cooler setup has also been added as high oil temps are the death of the wasserboxer engine. Axle half shafts front and rear have been replaced. It has a brand new air conditioning compressor and has been converted to R134a. All belts replaced.

It has Old Man Emu shocks which are firmer than stock to help control the weight of the Westy. Lift pads were added to the rear springs to raise the van just a little, which helps offset when it is loaded for camping with gear. Steering rack bushings have been upgraded to poly ones makes a great difference steering these vans, especially in crosswinds.
There is a roof basket added to the pop top and a ladder installed. The pop top hinges have been upgraded to stronger units, with lift shocks added to make raising the top very easy. An extra cabinet door is installed in the rear side cabinet, adding more storage that usually isn't accessible. The bumpers have been replaced with heavy duty Go Westy plate bumpers and make a difference in safety as well as parking lot protection! There is slight damage on the right front corner bumper. They are easy to stand on to load or clean. Receiver hitch mounts are installed front and rear which can facilitate a winch, or bicycle racks and there are heavy gauge wiring connections for a winch, too. There are hidden rock sliders to protect the rockers should you ever get far off road. This van also has the VW Rhein 15 alloy wheels (freshly powdercoated) with low mile BFG All Terrain tires and a matching spare (upgraded heavy duty spare mount under the front). The headlights have been upgraded to European H4 versions HUGE improvement in light output! Cibie fog lights have been added as well for better lighting in snow and fog.

The refrigerator has been upgraded to a 12V Truck Fridge and doesn't consume nearly as much battery life. Both Batteries (house and engine) are new/almost new) There is a propex furnace controlled by a thermostat There is a side awning that gives instant cover and shade, no matter where you decide to park.

It has heavy duty vinyl floor mats throughout. The rear hatch has a European interior release, so you can open it from the inside while camping. It includes a full set of curtains and a sliding door screen. The carpets were removed to clean them and the metal underneath.

The interior is very clean and nice, while the exterior has bedliner applied to the rocker panels to both match the off road bumpers, and offer some protection. The paint was redone at some point and is what I would call OK. There was a bubble of rust below the windshield that was treated and bedlined (have before and after pics), and some mild seam rust. In my opinion, it's the perfect amount of cosmetic wear so you don't have to worry about using it out in the wilderness and getting a new scratch. Cosmetically perfect vehicles usually don't get used because owners are too nervous about any damage.

Comes with LOTS of spares and extras, etc. Go Westy front cargo bag, sun shade, spare parts, etc.

The negatives previously mentioned seam rust (underside is VERY clean), speedometer just started working intermittently traced down to cable moving in and out too much, have new one, 2nd gear syncro crunches when you downshift from 3rd. Doesn't do it if you double clutch, which I always do, and hasn't changed since I've owned it, and no other trans issues noises, etc.

Basically, this is a Westfalia that has been upgraded in all the right ways and places, with lots and lots of money spent. Comparing this one to any other Vanagon Syncro Westy that doesn't have these upgrades or recent rebuilds done, is apples and oranges.
The Syncro Vanagons are famous for being able to get places that are surprising with this one having the locking rear differential and All Terrain tires this one can get anywhere you would conceivably want to camp. Being able to travel through snow and weather without any worry at all is super nice, and knowing you can get to where other people can't is a lot of the appeal of Syncro's.

I *AM* open to lots of partial trades nothing rusty, please.
