1957 23 Window, One Family Owned, Patina Bus!   Price: $88,500
1957 23 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus, One Family Owned, Patina Driver!

This early 1957 23 Window was purchased brand new at Volkswagen Washington in Seattle in 1957 and the receipt from that purchase is still with the Bus! It has been owned by the original owner family until recently and there are loads of receipts, service records, owner's manual, gas fill-up logs, fuel consumption charts, etc. that will be included in the sale.

Some of the important features to note include:

*Factory German 23 Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus

*Repainted Exterior Decades Ago In Original Colors Of Sealing Wax Red And Chestnut Brown, Great Patina Appearance

*Early 1957 With Bubble Taillights, Brakelight Decklid, Glass Reflectors

*Original Pressed Bumpers With Original Aluminum Deluxe Trim

*Correct, Original, And Original Upholstery Flat Back Middle And Rear Seats

*1966 1500cc Single Port Engine and Full Synchro Transaxle Installed in 1967, With Receipt From That Service

*Original Key Works Everything!

*Original Early Sigla Logo Glass With Exception Of A Couple Pieces And Original Delog Windshields

Overall the Bus is remarkably complete, intact, has a cool patina appearance, has a time capsule feel, and it runs and drives.

The body is generally in good shape, presents beautifully for a patina Bus, and features all of the correct doors, fat doglegs, brakelight decklid, crankstart apron with the original hand crank included, outtie vents with original vent trim, original pressed bumpers, original 15 inch wheels, original floors, etc. It has normal bonks, dings, and wear consistent with an unrestored 67-year-old Bus that had an exterior respray probably 40 or so years ago. There is typical rust in the normal places, mostly below the floors, and includes the jack points, outriggers, corners of belly pans, lower nose, etc. There is also a temporary repair on one of the front bumper tabs where it attaches to the dogleg. There are extensive pics of everything at the link at the bottom of this ad which will paint the picture clearly.

The interior is vastly original and features most of the original and hardest to find items. A later front seat, correct and original middle and rear seats, original interior panels, original paint dash with the correct early Deluxe clock with the winder on the backside, original early front floor mat, 70mph speedometer, correct early Deluxe coat hooks, and some of the original mohair headliner is still hanging in there, too! The original owner carefully removed the fabric liner from the parcel tray, rolled it up, and put it into storage when the Bus was nearly new. It's still with the Bus and is included, of course.

Mechanically the Bus is fully turnkey, starts, runs, drives, shifts, stops, and all electrical works, too. As best we can tell, it was parked somewhere around 1993, and has only driven approximately 200 miles in the last 31 years. It has now been woken up, revived, fuel tank cleaned out and an NOS fuel valve installed, received brake work as needed, a new fuel pump, new oil cooler and rear main seals, and the electrical is still 6 volts as well. The tires are dated 2008 and the new owner can decide what to replace them with. I have several video clips of the Bus in action that I can share with seriously interested parties and they will be shared on our Instagram page as well @holygrailgarage

Overall this is a bad ass early 23 Window with a nice natural patina, remarkably complete with the important and expensive parts that are usually missing, and it's a great one to run in any direction with. Most guys would probably just get a fresh set of Autobahn tires, polish it inside and out with some TR3 Resin Glaze Polish, and drive it like that for years to come. Others might do some localized welding and paint blending to take it up a level. Of course others would swap in a narrowed beam, straight axle, disc brakes, Porsche alloys, and a powerful 2 liter engine out back. This is the legit canvas, which way it goes is up to you! Thanks!

Please note this Bus is located in Port Orchard, Washington.
