1984 VW Westfalia Camper High-Top Price: $44650
|
Price reduced! This one-of-a-kind ‘84 Westy is your new overland companion. After a decade owning, restoring, and using this machine I’ve decided it’s time for a new home. Posting for sale here since I would much prefer it go to an enthusiast that can keep it going.
I bought this van all stock in NC in 2014 (with 87k miles!) and drove it home with a fuel leak. Since then it’s gotten two repaints, a whole new interior, its second and third engine, and a transmission & suspension that will let you follow a Rubicon through a sand pit on your favorite mountain. It’s been driven across the country at least five times and has toured remote Arkansas, West Virginia, Vermont, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, in addition to everything in between and the forest roads of its native North Carolina.
Buying a Westy in good condition and bringing it to this level of performance and reliability will cost nearly as much as any Sprinter or ProMaster platform. This one is done - turn-key, with propane heat and in-dash AC, a quiet, comfy interior, cruise control, a bombproof drivetrain, and enough features to live in weekends or full-time. There are a lot of little features and upgrades that aren't listed here - please ask if you're interested.

Over $86,500 invested in repairs, upgrades, and maintenance - with receipts
Original dealer paperwork and manuals; all other records since 2014.
Caveats/gremlins: inop fuel gauge (sender & tank already replaced), small bump on LH quarter panel (I backed into a trash can the week after it came back from the paint shop), windshield jet tubes & reservoir not installed (parts included), some evidence of paint delamination & corrosion on driver-side B pillar, RH door key cylinder is marginal. Clock used to work, now it doesn't. Body is very good but with any T3 it is not perfect. I have tried to highlight defects in the photos.
Clean NC title. Escrow, wire transfer, or certified funds required. Call or email. Local pickup preferred; trailer it or drive it home.
