Reluctantly I’m in a place where I’m parting with my beautiful Mango. Looking for a good home for this beauty.
Few people could have imagined the long-term cultural impact of the first-generation Volkswagen Microbus when it made its debut in 1950. Fast forward a decade from its utilitarian beginnings and the extensive Type 2 lineup included a variant to suit every need from the all-business panel delivery, Kombi and pickup to the Deluxe camper and this restored 1961 Volkswagen Microbus. No expense was spared in the nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration that unfolded over the course of two years in adherence to original factory specifications. The Microbus comes with a restoration photo album that documents its return and induction into the pantheon of desirable collectible cars. The famously determined air-cooled powertrain was uprated with a 1600cc dual-port flat-4 engine that has logged less than 100 miles since it was rebuilt. The rear-mounted engine sends its improved performance through a split-case 4-speed transmission and RGB reduction gearbox rear-wheel-drive. The rebuilt steering box, front end and new brakes work with 4-wheel independent suspension and telescopic shocks for authentic Microbus drivability. The body was media blasted, mounted on a custom-built rotisserie, straightened, and finished back into its original Mango Green and Sea Gull Gray color combination using factory-correct single-stage paint by Volkswagen specialists Deutschland Metal & Body in Palmdale, California. Opening the pivot barn doors reveals a faithfully restored interior brought back to 1961 by Lenny Copp of West Coast Classic VW Restoration from the German mohair headliner and roof air-circulating system to new upholstery, door panels and rubber flooring.
