Various VWs in movies and on TV Rome
1. Red Squareback, TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies" season 5 ep. 20
"The indians are coming!" (1967). Even though the front hubcaps are flat and seem to have the narrow-slot beauty rings which are for 5-bolt wheels, a split second beforehand shows the rear wheel having the high nipple hubcap and what appear to be the larger oval-slot beauty rings. That's Granny and Jethro in their jalopy car.
2. Still photo of Porsche engine in the 1963 Beetle sunroof Herbie shown in the movie "The Love Bug" (1969). Although this photo was an "Easter Egg" in the DVD for this movie, this particular shot is from the YouTube video "That loveable Bug" (2003). Man at right is the main stunt driver for the original movie, industry legend Carey Loftin. Mr. Loftin was also credited as the unseen truck driver in the movie "Duel".
3. Oval window Beetle parked, German movie "Wie schoen dass es dich gibt" (1957) translated How nice that you exist.
4. Oval window Beetle driving, German movie "Bekenntnisse eines moeblierten Herrens" (1963). Translated Confessions of a furnished gentleman. Main character is driving a Citroen 2CV with its rolled-back roof.
5. Customized white Beetle Karmann Cabrio, German program "Der Mann der keine Autos mochte" S3E6 (1984). Translated The man who did not like any cars".
6. Late '60's Ghia Coupe, movie "Boogie nights" (1997) with actor Ricky Jay in center.
7-10. Yellow rail buggy, MotorTrend Channel show "Roadkill Garage" episode 39 "Boon Duggy" 2019. Host David Freiburger and guest host Steve Dulcich revive a very cheaply bought, long-parked buggy with a 40 hp engine, then drive it along the dirt roads near/on Steve's farm. And briefly getting it stuck in the sand, as well as rolling it over when going around a curve too fast- both guys and the buggy were OK.
11. Oval window Beetle parked, German TV show "Der Kommissar" s1E11 Die Schrecklichen (1969). Translated The Horrible.
12. 5 Beetles parked in Munich (?) street, per #11. View other images: From Rome Search Forums for photo

Karmann Ghias, Type 3 in movies & TV; batch 13 Rome
1. Orange late Squareback in a German junkyard; seems like such a waste though the mandatory 2-year inspection system TUeV was rigorous with body rot. German program "Der Mann der keine Autos mochte" season 3, 1984. Translated The man who did not like any cars.
2. Yellow '68/'69 Ghia Cabrio parked, 1970's German TV program "Die Strasse".
3. Black with white roof Ghia Coupe in traffic, German TV program "PS Geschichten 1975" (translated Horsepower stories).
4. Ivory late Type 34 Ghia, German TV program "PS Geschichten- Die Feuerreiter 4".
5, 6. Black with black roof '66 Ghia Cabrio, German TV program "PS Geschichten 2" (1979). Samba Ghia enthusiast Udo Dreisoerner listed this in "Ghias on the silver screen" thread.
7. Same '66 Ghia and its driver, PS Geschichten 4.
8. White late Squareback parked, per #7.
9. Early '60's Ghia Cabrio at the finish line of the Jackrabbit Springs race behind the checkered flagman, movie "The Love Bug" (1969). The VW logo on the far left is probably the only time it was ever seen in the movie, as Herbie the Love Bug had its emblem either removed or covered over. Silver-blue blur is a Corvette Stingray roadster, and the red blur at far right is a Devin. View other images: From Rome Search Forums for photo
