74' baja in progress dan3
This is my 1974 Baja which is powered by a 1600cc engine. It use to be a really nice car until I got ahold of it. When I baught the car it was all stock and the engine was frozen. I mainly got it for the "no rust" purpose which I found out later on didnt matter scince I would transform it into a baja.
Anyway, $1000 for the car and a frozen engine. I had it rebuilt which cost me $1800 so now I'm up to $2,800. Well, to make a long story short I chopped the body and installed a fiberglass kit($10 used on ebay, w/out r.fenders). Next I replaced the heater boxes with J-tubes for a header/stinger system. Scince I did that my engine required that I replace my stock 34pict carb with a weber 32/36 progressive carb. I havent gotten the carb tuned yet so it wastes alot of gas. It's nowhere near finished........I'd say that so far i have spent $3500 total on this fine automobile.
I plan on finishing my car by Feb. of next year. Changes to my baja will consist of the following: 3" suspension lift all around, new white spoke wheels, rancho shocks for rear and adj. coil overs for the front, new balljoints, bushings, tachometer, roofrack and some other stuff I cant think of right now.
My car currently has a double tube front bumper that has been bolted on the top bolts of the front axle (for better clearance) and rear HD tube bumper with skip plate. These changes are not shown in picture, incase you didnt see.....I'll post another pic once its finished. View other images: From dan3 Search Forums for photo

My cuz gettin some hang time in his rail. Stock kingpin and swingaxle suspention from a Beetle can take more abuse than one could ever imagine! Next time you hit a pot hole with your 63 Beetle don't worry you can't hurt it! It pops back right up for more punishment, View other images: From chris181westy1 Search Forums for photo
