Previous pics are with a nice rosewood knob, here it is shown with an original Walnut knob. I don't like to clear coat the walnut, you just end up chipping it off with rings, etc. I sand them down, and oil and buff the wood to bring out that grain. Nothing like a wood empi wheel and a wood knob Hurst for that cozy feel!

The commonly missing 3-4 lockout plate and "W" spring. Don't be tempted to use anything but the original metal parts, the empi junk will bend.

A common problem for early Hursts was the bottom plate loosening and coming off. They were peened in place by two small posts which always tended to come loose. Later Hursts not only were peened in place, but they started to tack weld the edges of the shift cages as well. Here you can see where I have tacked to bottom plate to the post, ground flat, and painted.

I only use stainless button head hardware and original hardened steel cages. No mild steel Empi crap that hogs out in a few months.
