Utilizing J Charlton's brackets, I built this unistrut rack with intent of mounting a 140w solar panel (which I did,) and future Kayak and sand rails, one on either side. I currently have my awning on the passenger side, but this was a failed experiment. I wanted to see if I could hang it high, thus clearing the windows, and still operated it, but it is too difficult. I still have to relocate it. This rack is very sturdy. The gutter mounts hold the rack on better than anything I've seen. Certainly better than thule or yakima gutter mounts. I also get lots of compliments. The unitstrut material is slotted, as this was all that was available locally. This is actually lighter, so no worries. |
