One: I really love the flat floor of the pre '72 type 3's.
You can lie flat as you work under the dash - pleasant.
Two: All four type 3's I have worked on have leaked along the rear edge of the fresh air intake (pictured).
It is due to the original sealing compound breaking down in the joins.
One leak is showing in this pic (top of the photo, just left of the middle), the light brown stain is coming from the plenum just forward of the front windscreen, the positive pressure when driving in rain drives the water into the cabin.
I have tried before to reseal with sikaflex with no luck - this time I am using a roofing tape (tar/silver) along the join.
Three: while you're here, blow out with high pressure air the fresh air intake, treat for rust and spray with LPS3 or equivalent. |
