Yes, we have a BEAUTIFUL drag strip up here, a full quarter mile. July 4th, 2014 is the 50th Anniversary celebration of the founding of Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer, Alaska, some 38 miles north of Anchorage (www.alaskaracewaypark.com) and we're going to get Nitro cars visiting for the event. Alot of high-dollar machines up here but not many Volkswagens as you can imagine (:-[
I've been draggin' here for 9 years now, raced since 1986 in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and California before that in a '73 Super Beetle Baja (some of you may remember the bullhorns on the front hood, ha) that has been since retired.
Finished the body-off, 10 point roll cage car in 2004, detailing every last little piece. Powerplant is a normally-aspirated 2332cc four-banger with a Type 1 IRS gearbox in front of it with lots of aftermarket racing parts (set-up properly, failures aren't common). 12.50 secs in the quarter @ 600ASL. |
