In auto body and metal shaping I am constantly faced with taking some time to clean up an OG German part, or fitting in a new "repop" replacement part. I'm finding, as we all do, that some of the new repop parts just don't fit. The time it takes you to maneuver the repop part to fit, is time consuming and frustrating. Also, the make up of the content of the repop sheet metal, is inferior to the OG German sheet metal. As an example, look at the difference in measurement, comparing this OG lower innner D'Lid support to a new repop piece. The repop piece is much thicker and the hand stop is located wrong. Plus the lower drain on the repop is shaped different. All adds up to a bad fit for the repop and much time wasted, trying to get it to fit. You would think that if a repop company went to all the trouble and cost to set up new dies to stamp these, that they would develop a better fit and use better sheet metal. JMHO |
