Original Finish on Lowlight Trunk Latch Posted: Thu Apr 06, 2017 1:01 pm     Views: 47      Rating: Not rated

The trunk latch on my June 57 has most of its original finish. It's a matte gray phosphate finish (probably zinc phosphate aka parkerizing). The contractor who made the latches would have coated parts with a thin, light film of protective oil - similar to how a gunowner refinishes firearms.

I solvent cleaned the right half of the top and two areas on the bottom to expose the true color of the finish. You can see a few specks of bright steel where the finish has been scratched or worn through. 1957 lowlight Ghia.
