This is the standoff, or saddle, that goes underneath the snaps in the chrome trim along the lower-rear edge of early Karmann Ghia convertible tops that utilize a wooden tack strip. These snaps are used to secure the top boot in place when the roof is lowered. Later convertibles that utilize a cable to fasten the rear of the top have the snaps placed in the body of the car just behind the rear edge of the top.
