Understated, hot rod Beetle built in the mid 1980's by Miles Collier, Jr. of Naples, FL. Aluminum fenders, engine lid, hood, door skins, running boards fabricated by Troutman & Barnes of Culver City, CA. Porsche 356A Carrera "stacked dish" drum brakes, Porsche 901 5-speed transmission (dogleg 1st gear), 911 semi-trailing arm rear suspension, Speedster seats.
Engine originally was a 180hp 2.0 liter flat-fan Carrera 4-cam engine from a Porsche Elva racer. Now it's a flat-fan conversion Porsche 914 2.6 liter built by Jake Raby (RAT). Floorpan perimeter metal stiffeners. Small access panel behind LR window was for a dry sump oil reservoir fill.
I saw this very car in 1988 on display at the Miles Collier Museum in Naples. Now the museum is called the Revs Institute. |
