Thermostat - aftermarket vs Subaru

Here is a photo comparison of an aftermarket thermostat (on the left) and an original Subaru Thermostat (on the right)
I was having heating/engine temp issues so I have replaced the aftermarket thermostat with the subaru one. This is in my '86 Syncro that has had an subaru engine installed.
