1966 Beetle Intake Manifold Restoration Posted: Thu Nov 19, 2020 2:55 pm     Views: 23      Rating: Not rated

Detail showing a rotary cable “snake” I used to clear carbon blocked riser tube on my 1300cc intake manifold. Made the snake from a discarded push-pull (choke) cable salvaged from a small airplane, you could probably find something similar on a lawnmower or something. It worked so well that I wanted to share photos of the cable end in particular, a slight bend in the short clipped solid wire is able to move through the tube without snagging, spins round scraping through the carbon. It took about 1/2 an hour, some light hammer taps along the riser, and compressed air, until finally I broke through the carbon. No drilling holes to weld or plug later it’s on to the blast cabinet now!
