For the past 10+ years or so, we've been working with the orgnanizers of the Great Connecticut Traditional Jazz Festival, on attracting old cars to, and helping to organize them on the day of, the "Antique Automobile Parade & Display" (which is always Sunday of Jazz Festival weekend). After seeing John Kelly's magnificent 1954 Bug show up in the most recent Hot VWs issue (Litchfield Bug Inn 2005 coverage), it occurred to me that I had a couple of shots of John's car from the Jazz Festival. Here is one, and I'll follow up with another one.
Back on the Festival again--and antique auto participation in same--the Festival offers free admission for the driver, one passenger, and also kids in the car, for the participating antique autos. It's really a fun day. You get to show your old car off on a wonderful grassy field right next to one of the musical tents, plus you also get to enjoy a day of fantastic traditional jazz music, played by many talented musicians and groups. We really enjoy ourselves there ever year, and it's really cool to see some other Old Volkswagens show up, such as Mr. Kelly's super nice '54!
Here is the "online flyer" page we put together, to help publicize the opportunity to the local CT Shoreline area antique automobile hobby: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/JzzFstFlyer.html
And here is the main web site for the Jazz Festival itself: http://www.sunriseresort.com/jazz.html
If you're in or near the south-eastern part of Connecticut in late summer (with your old car), you should try to see if you can fit this one into your schedule. It's really a lot of fun!
